Well , i finely figured out why counties vote dry
they do not want commercial liquor stores in their area where they moonshine. eliminate the competition. Their version of "our thing"

you are half right. here in Mississippi dry counties are the only ones where the churches and the moonshiners are on the same side.

Don't forget the bootleggers. They thrived in Mississippi when I lived there. Got a pretty hefty markup for doing it, too.
Down the road from our deer camp was a rundown house where you could knock on the door and say you were friends with "Joe". After you sit a spell and chat, he'd make you a "gift" of a bottle or two while just mentioning how sick his little niece was in the hospital. And you'd make him a donation of cash.

County I live in is dry. Towns not so. ABC store, beer and wine at most any convenience and grocery store. So is LBTD in some restaurant's. All about the $$$$$$$$$$$.

my departed BIL lived in a dry county in Georga we use to visit him back in the 1980's and 90"s
we would go with him showing us around the area .. looking back it was funny he would point out boot leg drive thru places they would have drive up windows with a drive way circling the house he said every one knew all such places and of course it cost a bit more but on the weekends that few dollars more did not matter if you wanted to drink .
