Rat trapping ???
Have recently had an over run with rats, nothing new for where we live, just seasonal. My question is that when a rat gets trapped, and bleeds on the trap and/or the surrounding area, does that attract, or deter other rodents? I do realize that there is a chance of disease though. My thoughts would be that blood would be a good attractant, but not sure. I don't want to use any type of chemical to clean up any mess, in the chance that it will deter any more of the enemy. Thoughts?

I’ve trapped lots and seen no deterrent effect from the blood. Just re-set and repeat. I remember a few times snapping them just about as fast as I could re-set the traps. Most effective if you can place traps at a known entry point to the building, etc. They’ll keep following that path, and keep getting snapped.
Wise to use gloves, though. They are, indeed, nasty.

I have not done it but may give it a try this year just for the heck of it ( I let the cats get the young ones and bait blocks get the big ones in the spring ) but countless way to use a bucket 1/4 to 1/2 full of water and a tipping board or rolling device with peanut butter on it the rats go for it fall in and drown just do a you tube search no blood just drowned rats
there is even commercially made versions of the better ones for cheap now

I now have cats that take care of the rodents.
But I've used 5 gallon bucket traps for live trapping mice. Works great and do not have to check the traps each day. They just fall to the bottom of the bucket through a hole in the lid and they have food inside. I can do away with them in my free time and no dead stink.
Larger containers could be used for live trapping rats.
Be aware of Hanta Virus.

There is an old saying about cats and rats. Cats eat mice, rats eat cats.
I’m not sure if blood will attract them or not, but the others will try to drag the dead rat off, I don’t know why they do that, hungry maybe.
Many years ago there was a bridge the railroad crossed the Mississippi river to get to the Iowa side, on the Iowa side there was and old dump sight, I never seen so many rats before in my life on that side of the river.
There was a switch we had to throw to get on the main track, I would always light a couple of fusees and throw on the ground by the switch if we were there at night. I always thought it would have been fun if we could have took a rifle along while waiting for permission to open the switch.

I've used #1 traps and caught multiple rats with one set up. We had a neighboring hog farm close down and clean up. Set the rats on everyone around.
I made a funnel, hung bait about 18 inches high and lined the funnel with traps. Worked pretty well.

I had a small amount of garlic butter left over so I mixed it with the peanut butter. Mice couldn't resist it.

All the mice around here must have peanut allergies. They seem to ignore my PB baited traps and go straight for the sealed bags of dog and cat kibble! ☹️

I would like to have a few hanging around here but rat snake ( or any snake )= wife no like
we get a Garder snake once in a blue moon and that s about it
