Many years ago I worked at the Corvette Factory
I remembered seeing these picture posted at the factory so I done a search and found these copies the old timers at the factory said they were works of art and the only thing left was the pictures

I knew they ( car companys ) used a lot of clay way back when and some wood to build mock up and style new cars but those looked way to polished and refined for just a show and tell ?

I went thru on a tour yrs ago and was amazed at the automation. The paint booth was really neat. While you are there go next door to the museum.

It's been maybe 20 years or so on vacation one year we made a side trip to the museum it was not to far off our path wife thought I would like to go she was thinking of me boy that was long ago lol
It was interesting to see the cars we did not go thru the factory but I worked a a car company at the time in the factory Honda

My Uncle was in charge of all 22 plants in central Indiana when I went to see him when I got out of HS. Everyone in my family worked at GM. He couldn't get me on because of lay offs. I was really upset but he told me to go out and be successful doing something else. I went by and seen him many yrs later and he was complaining about GM. I told him if he wasn't happy to quit and go do something else. This is a man who went to GMI institute and went on to Harvard to get a law degree. He quit just a few days later, and bought a gravel company . He gave me the best advice ever

Those were the hand built/carved mahogany mock ups to make the molds for the fiberglass body panels. Super smooth finish so the molds didn't have any imperfections. The first 300 vettes were hand assembled in Flint only a few miles from my childhood home. Sadly, I believe those beautiful mahogany creations were destroyed decades ago. Just another tool that had outlived its usefulness and they were scrapped. Bob

Living near Bowling Green, now hearing rumors they are going to make the Corvette in Electric.

Announced yesterday of the hybrid electric Corvette coming most likely 2023, And eventually a full electric. I suspect they will be base priced in the 100k range plus options and dealer markup. Out the door 115-125k.

Could you imagine the money those mahogany molds would bring at Barrett_Jackson had they survived?
