Well, I started taking Taijutsu
Actually, I started about a month ago. I felt I needed to expand on my hand to hand combat skills. It's been fun to learn this martial art. There are 9 schools in the bukjinkan budo taijutsu and so much to learn! It even includes modern weapons training... guns!

When you are young you feel invincible and want to learn all of that stuff. I went thru the same with boxing. Was doing well till I broke my hand in a kmart parking lot defending myself. The large man who hit me and hurt me was in the same room with the curtain pulled. I broke his jaw, ribs. I was a light welterweight 138 and he was 230/250 or so. I didn't press charges with the Police there. My coach Tom Sarge Johnson later died in a plane crash with the US Olympic team in Poland March 1980. I threw in the towel and walked away from all of it afterwards. I can only thank that the issue happened in the parking lot. My right hand broken bone healed and I moved on.

I HATE GI's. The one I own is dark blue, weights a ton, and is hot as hell. The only time I ever wore it is when I was required to for a test.

Had Aikido for physical management training for 21 of the 28 years I worked in corrections. At one of the annual skill outs at the training branch the head Aikido Master I think pick me out because I was one of the biggest people there, to attack him. He did not realize how strong an ole country boy was apparently. He grabbed me by the arm and I did not move. He left me alone.
The most important thing in any self defense is keep your center, proper distance and use the other person against them self.

I hate kata. Forty minutes of kata every session is the reason I left Japanese karate. No kata in aikido, thank God.

Yeah and when you're not in your bathrobe you do it this way. Some of those boys in "bathrobes" like my boys when they were kids were already tough as nails to start with. You ad a little more know how to it like in the Golden Gloves and they were hell on wheels. That was two boys, the one above in the photo and this one in the ring and carrying the tournament trophy, that were never bullied in their lives and they never disrespected anyone else either.

Mine is a heavy canvas black. It's warm but our dojo is very cool.😎
