Memorial Day 2017
Memorial Day keynote speech given by my late husband in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, May 2017. He passed away in August of that year at the age of 56. Cancer took him after doing two different tours in the Middle East.

Makes me wonder if those pit fires in Iraq war was a reason for his cancer. I had a cousin who was in Vietnam that sprayed agent orange over the jungle canopy and died of cancer close to the same age as your departed Husband.
In any-case all veterans should be honored today for their service and everyday for all the freedoms that we have to enjoy today.

I took part in a Memorial Day event yesterday at our local Memorial Wall. I'm proud to say I was asked to announce some of the names of our local men and women who did not return. Two of them were classmates, one, an Army Captain who was KIA near Saigon in 1968, the other a Navy pilot who was shot down over North Vietnam in 1970, his remains were recovered and brought home in 1978.
I came home unscathed, but have a lot of memories I will carry with me forever.
