Haven't Fired it in 25 Years
While looking for something else, I came across notes (I keep pretty good notes!) on a .25/06 that I last fired at the range 12/15/97. It's a decent old rifle; built it when that cartridge was still a wildcat. Bought the original military 1909 Argentine Mauser rifle back when most any 98 Mauser was $25. Had it reworked by the local Gunsmith, barreled by Flaig's, put it in a Fajen stock, set it up with a Weaver V9 scope in Buehler mounts. Anybody else got a good rifle that's been lying around doing nothing for 25 years?

I have a 257 Roberts that I had built on a 03 action back in about 1985 or so. Douglas air gauged barrel and I put it in a stock from Bishops and added a Timney trigger. Super accurate and it accounted for a few critters back when I was making trips to Wyoming for deer and antelope. Like a lot of folks, I kept finding something new and different to try and that rifle has languished in the safe for at least 25 years, so yes, I am woefully guilty of firearm neglect.
Oh fudge! Talking about the 257 reminded me about the 6.5X55, also built on a 03 action that has been ignored for almost as long. They all get wiped down at least once a year, but I do need to get them out and put a few holes in some paper to justify hanging on to them.

MANY--since I've had serious shoulder problems, none of my 'big' rifles have been fired for years. Six years back, I shot an elk with my old 7mmRM from a bad position and darned near cried. Since that time, the most recoil I've suffered on myself has been a few rounds of .308 and even that not for 2 years. My elk hunting for the past 5 years has been taken care of with a 25/06 and most deer hunting with a suppressed 6.5Creedmoor or 6.8SPC.

Agree the older get the less some of the guns have been used 30 years plus for most of them a 22 pistol and rifle get the most use mostly plinking or rat control . when I was younger like most I will guess I loved to go out and waste ammo with my departed Brother ( RIP ) . for some time now some family and friends get together in my back yard and have a grand old time normally have some 1st time shooters along . but last couple years with the covid and ammo shortages and just every ones family scheduling we have not gotten together hopefully this fall . some of my guns get a work out when we do get together but some have not done nothing but take up safe space . I would sell them but my sons can decide that later on pick choose sell keep and pass down would be my request but I will not be there 😁 hopefully with a few more grandkids to get them ( we only have one now )

Agree, Ditch-Runner. I'm about ready to have 'the talk' with my kids about selling some of my un-used guns(before even that becomes illegal). Some have sentimental value and will stay in the family. Some were 'built' on a whim and hardly used and some were the overflow when I went out of the FFL business-those and the big boomers will be the first to go.
I have the urge to buy a couple of specialty guns such as a dedicated 410 turkey gun but most of the current rack can be gone w/o me missing their presence much.

no rifles but I do have a model 12, 12ga of my dads I haven't had in the woods in 15-20 years. He cut about 1 1/2 inches off stock and added a recoil pad, the stock is to short for me now and also for my son. I just thought the other day I may as well sell it, I have been wanting a semi auto in 28ga for a while, should be able to get most of my money from the model 12 to buy a 28ga, at least it would be a gun we could shoot comfortably.......

I have Savage Model 170, pump 30-30 that was last fired in 1977 when my FIL took his last deer. I take it out of the safe every once in a while, inspect, wipe it down and replace it.

I sporterized a 7.7mm Arisaka in the late 60's and it was my deer rifle for northern Michigan for twenty years. I then acquired a .35 Marlin and later a.44 Mag Marlin and they were my using rifles until I stopped hunting in 1980. So I haven't shot the Jap for twenty + years. I had the metal work done in Japan and they did a very nice job. It was very accurate and handy with a 21 inch barrel.

Go on the auction sites including gb lot of stocks show up find a nice one you may decide on keeping it or at least get the most out of it with a uncut stock if you sell it just a suggestion

I had a newspaper route in 1957. Williamsport, Pa. Sun Gazette. Bought a brand new '94 in .32 Special, 2,165,---. I got a 310 tool for Christmas. The other day, thanks to you, I got her out and fired off a box of old reloads. The 3X Weaver is still very clear. The forend has 7 notches on it and I can still remember all of them vividly. An 8 point white tail still adorns my living room wall. I think I paid $79.00 for it and got a free box of silver tips - they were neat looking compared to core locks.

Bought a Isaphore arsenal built Lee Enfield from Roses in about 1995. Caliber 308. New in the box covered in cosmolene.Took 15 years to getting around to cleaning and reassembling it . It awaits in the safe ,still unfired .

Bought an Interarms Mauser in 1982. Put a Weaver K6 scope on it. Very decent plinker with surplus 7.92x57. Had to the range maybe twice in the last 40 years. It would be interesting to see what the rifle is capable of with good ammo.
