"Update" Redeeming a Money Order
Unusual situation for me. Last week I purchased a gun on GB, it was on Sat. Went to checkout, entered my CC info along with all the other information and it said card not valid. So Monday morning I just get a USPS MO and send it to the seller. Tuesday morning I see where the deduction was made from my debit account. Called the seller and they said it was not on their records and it would not be charged to my account. Well today is Thursday, gun was delivered, I picked it up, checked my account and sure enough the amount was deducted. Called seller and they said they received my MO today and have sent it back to me. My question is: How do I cash a MO that is made out to someone else?
For anyone else that may encounter this situation, I found out from the PO that either person that is on the money order , buyer or seller can redeem it with identification. They gladly gave me my money back.

Take it back to the issuer and explain it was not needed. If they have the cash on hand they should take care of it immediately. If they do not have that much on hand ask them what your best recourse is. You are not the first to buy an unneeded money order and they have guidelines in place to take care of the problem. Bob

Yeah, there should be a phone number on it to call. In your situation, have the receipt from when you bought it. You know. The stub that is attached to the bottom.

BobJudy is correct. Take it back to the Post Office. They will give your money back, if they have enough cash.

That happened to me many years ago. As I recall, the post office had me write something like "Not used as originally intended" and sign it. I'm sure they'll help you out.
Otherwise, take the coffee-soaked, torn money order to the post office with your receipt and request a replacement. Then you can make it out to yourself.

In my experience, USPS employees who have the slightest clue how to handle a money order are a very rare species.
