38 special
I came into possession of a Colt Lightning 38 special.
All I find for ammo appears to be handgun ammo.
I don't want to blow this fine gun up.
Any suggestions

Ain't .38 Special for hand guns? Maybe look for target load and stay away from +Ps?

Rifle or handgun? You are asking about 3 different calibers. The Colt lightning handgun was 38 long Colt not 38 special. The rifle was chambered in 38/40 not 38 special. These are not interchangeable. Both of these calibers are available on the auction side. Bob

Just an extension to 'BobJudy's' information:

If it really is a .38 Special, Bubba has been very busy on it and lost all collectable value. Hopefully it is actually in original .38-40 caliber which is a necked-down .44-40 case. There are low pressure Cowboy Action loads available as the Winchester 1873 and 1892 were also made in that caliber.
