Anyone using this day night scope? Sightmark Wraith 4K Mini 2-16x32 Digital Riflescope
I'm looking for a day/night scope to be used on a 243 Winchester 70 or Remington 700 bolt action rifle. (see they are rated up to 308 recoil)
Shooting distance at night will be from a blind at hogs 100 yards and less around a feeder.
Looking at Sightmark at the vendor Outdoor Legacy and see thay have 4.

Will I need a pitanny base for the bolt action rifle?
Will I need a Sightmark bolt action mount for the scope in addition to the Win or Rem pitanny base? (or just the pitanny base only)
Probably won't need external battery pack at first, just turn the NV scope on/off every once in awhile a take a scan or eventually buy a thermal imaging scanner for more constant scanning so as to leave the NV scope turned off?
Appears will not need any additional IR lighting for use inside 100 yards?
ATN NV is not an option for me due to their bad reviews

I have a mini on my 300 hammer so far I like it alot but I've only been out with it 1 time so far. It does eat battries pretty fast and a better IR light then the factory one makes a world of difference.The bolt action base does not fit the mini unless they have come out with a new mount since I bought mine.

I also have the Wraith HD mounted on a Ruger American for what your doing that is a good sight my only complaint is the weight of the unit.
Outdoor Legacy is a great company to work with any questions I had they were outstanding with getting back to me

Just got off sightmarks site. They do now have a bolt action mount for the mini called the long mount. Forgot to answer the base question yes you will need a picatinny base and to get the right eye relief I would recommend getting the bolt action mounts tried it without on the Ruger and after the first hunt went ahead and ordered the bolt mount for the Wraith HD

According to their website.....the 3x24x50 has a built in rechargable battery that lasts 8 hours. Seems that would be the way to go. I have ZERO experience with these scopes, just looking at the website because you peaked my interest. For 699 i may have to get me one😁

Further reading shows 90 minutes with IR on. Oh well, sounded great to start with. Gotta click on the specs tab and read everything. 8 hours is with no IR and no recording. So i guess 8 hours in day time use.

For 499.99 the Wraith HD is a good unit and out to hundred yards quite capable it is powered by 4 AA battries I use the Panasonic rechargeables in the one I have I get about 3 hrs of continuous use from a set

What caliber and model is your ruger rifle? (is it a regular bolt action or the AR15 type frame)
You mentioned the Sightmark HD as a recommendation. (now at $499)
Your only complaint is it's heavy. (and eats batteries)
I'm not going to be carrying the rifle and scope through the woods, hunting will be from a game blind so I do not see bulk or weight as a issue YET.
Why not the 4K max that is on sale. ($699.97) normally $799.97
I see for exzmple the Mini as 2x16 but looking at specs it mentions 2-8X. Why the lower zoom rating?
What is the main reason you decided NV (day/night instead of thermal)? (price maybe @ $1k average higher???Are thermals that much metter. Guess maybe also a thermal scope might could be used to find a freash downed animal in the brush?????
Reason I ask is it appears that the daytime use of a NV is iffy and is Black/white only????(no color as compared to a regular rifle scope in daytime) Animal might be hard to see if it is brown or grey and has a brown background, etc)

The Ruger American is bolt action started out 300 blackout is now 300 Hamm'r and I used the bolt gun mount the rifle came with the picatinny base.
Reason I did not say anything about the 4k max is I do not have one.
Not certain where they got the 2-8 spec from only thing to note is as you zoom up the picture gets grainy in the higher zoom the picture is better on the mini and max then the HD on the upper end of the zoom as they have better resolution.
I picked these over thermal due to price plus I leave the IR light off and use these for deer hunting during deer season the daytime view is quite good in these units colored picture in daytime mode and goes to black and white. I only hog hunt maybe 4 times a year just couldn't justify the price for thermal where these I can also use for deer hunting and they're quite a bit cheaper. For what your wanting to do I would give the Wraith HD a look another thing the Wraith HD doesn't do is record sound if recording is a issue your concerned with. As far the resolution difference that is noticed most at the upper zoom levels the HD will be more grainy

Ok like a digital game camera with a crosshair. I use game cameras so that gives me an idea of what to expect during day/night view.
Is your wraith a 4x32x50 or the 2x16x28mm lens? (appears the 2x16 might be the latter Wraith model, aug 2020)
Both are listed at same price and appear to use the same batteries. (since they do color in daytime I might use it out to around 250 yards max in daytime, but most shots would be inside 100 yards in brush deer hunting.
Noticed the FOV at 100 yards is 42 ft for the 2x16 wraith vs about 21 ft for the 4x32 BUT the 4x32 has a 50mm lens vs 28mm for the 2x16. Usually a larger obj lense is a good thing for better early morning and late evening.
When the scope is first turned on day or night is the target immediately visible like within 2-5 seconds?
Does the units have a low battery indicator and if the unit is accidently left on can it be turned off for awhile and then back on a get a few seconds of operation similiar to a red dot sight going weak?
I do not at this time care anything about recording sound or video.
Please excuse all the ??'s, just trying to get a good idea before I call Outdoor Legacy for ordering and what to pay attention to when reviewing the specs.
I just now seen that Outdoor Legacy has a video to review about the different Sightmark models. Once I get an idea of which one I'll review the owners manual/specs and videos more closely.
Experience is what you get when what you bought is NOT what you wanted.
Seen this a few times is why I like to review so as to cut down on the surprises.
Do you ever have any concerns or issues with the 2.5 inch of eye relief and does the rubber eye tube cause any issues when wearing glasses??
Reason I ask is most rifle scope have at least 3-3.5 inches of eye relief at the lower powers.

My Wraith HD is the 4x32 there is a battery indicator in the screen off to side I use the rechargeable AA's in mine the IR uses the 18650 the Engerizer lithium give a little longer run time turn on time isn't too bad and you can plug a cell phone battery pack in to extend your time. If you notice on the Ruger there is a picatinny rail mounted on the sling stud I like the IR light mounted out front under the muzzle you get less wash out from the smoke when you shoot then if the light is mounted on the unit for a quicker second shot it needed Caldwell makes that

Thermal does have night vision beat on a rainy night or in fog. NV is almost useless in heavy rain or foggy night

On your Ruger scope mounting.
Is that the optional Bolt action base that Outdoor Legacy sells so as proper eye relief can be achieved on a bolt action rifle or is the scope just mounted onto a Picatinny ONE PIECE base or maybe even a picatinny two piece base?
Reason I ask is I'm considering mounting a Sightmark Wraith 2x16x28 onto a Remington 700 243 and trying to determine base mounting requirements for the scope.
Trying to figure out all the mounting bases required so as to get a user adjustable eye relief.

That is the optional bolt gun mount on the factory Ruger picatinny rail I tried the regular mount that comes with the unit even mounted as far back as possible it was to much eye releif

I'll get the Bolt action mount also.
The main reason I'm considering the 2x16x28 is the wider FOV as compared to the 4 power as pointed out in Outdoor Legacy Video for close range. (wider field of view for scanning every once in awhile then turn the scope off and also maybe seeing which way the target runs after the shot and some of these varmits are inside 40 years when they come out of the brush) Might also be using the NV scope for them Texas Armadillo pigs that have migrated into my yard from Texas and digging up big rocks at night.
might have to consider a IR scanner locator later on and the NV scope can be left off until target of interest detected with the IR.

When looking at a bolt action mount picture at the Outdoor Legacy site:
Why does the bolt action mount have 7 holes along the top???
I do not see any cross slots in the Bolt action base for the scope's cross slot screws.
reason I ask is it appears that this bolt action BASE clamps with side allen head screws onto a picatinny one piece rail installed on a rifle and then a Wraith scope DIRECTLY clamps to the top rail of the Bolt Action base so as to slide back and forth for eye adjustment, so why the 7 holes) I do not see any cross slots in the bolt action base???????????????????????

those holes are for bolting to the bottom of the unit that is also adjustable for eye relief it uses 2 Allen screws to secure the unit to the base. if needed I could have slide mine back one more set of holes if I needed to get the proper eye relief

I called Outdoor Legacy early this morning with these questions but they have not got back to me and the gal at the phone had no idea.
So the thumbscrews are on a on a mount bolted to the bottom of a wraith scope and this thumbscrew mount is removed from the scope when using a bolt action mount and bolt the scope directly to the Bolt action mount using 2 of the 7 screw holes?
If so then I may not need a $35 pictanny one piece base mount, I might be able to just use the cheaper 2 piece Weaver bases that I already have in stock if the side screw clamp on spacing on the Bolt action mount is correct distance apart for a Remington 700 SA rifle two piece bases? (or even the lesser priced one piece Weaver base.
Some of the Ruger SA's and the Remington 700 short action rifles use the same pictanny and weaver bases.
What is the side screw clamp spacing on your Ruger Bolt action mount? (Trying to determine if the BA mount will clamp onto the side of my existing two piece Weaver bases)

Since the Bolt Action adapter is only clamping to the sides of the receiver base with screws and is not using the equally spaced cross slots of a $35 and up picatinny base, if the 4.5 inch C-C screw spacing of the Bolt Action adapter does not match the front and rear of Weaver two pieces bases for proper fine tuning eye relief I can maybe just use a less priced Weaver one piece base that I already have in stock so as to get a longer receiver base clamping surface and have more fore and aft fine tuning for prper eye relief? (not have to spend $35 ordering a picatinney rail mount)

Last spring I convinced myself I wanted 'night vision' capability. I spent more than I should have on a Wraith--what a POS. Heavy, narrow field of view when used during daylight, eats batteries quickly, numerous buttons that require specific sequences to reach the proper selection, and requires some sort of rifle support since only one hand is available to hold the rifle while the other plays piano with the buttons.
In a perfect scenario you CAN see stuff using moonlight or the illuminator BUT this is only under specific conditions. Among those perfect conditions is a wide open field w/o any obstructions or vegetation that might reflect the illuminator's filtered light. Anything like weeds, tall grass, or tree branches results in a glare rather than a field of view.
Looking across a short grass pasture at night, livestock is visible and easily targeted. I can't say how the contraption works on varmints since none of the places where I tried to use the scope met the perfect scenario conditions described and no coyotes were dumb enough to venture out into barren wide open spots where the scope worked properly.
Make your choices accordingly.

I installed another Wraith on a relative's Rem 700 short action using Weaver bases. The crossbolts of the Wraith mount are picatinny size which is different than Weaver cross slots. In addition the spacing is off by about 1/4 of the slot width requiring some very careful work with a round(chain saw sharpening) file.
Again, make your choices carefully unless you like frustration.

I got a halt on the sightmark wraith 2x16x28. Seen several review complaints about different things.
Looking towards the more expensive NV scope such as a Pulsar Digex C50.
Less complaints
can use on larger caliber guns
But, it's not made in USA so I do not know about getting non-warranty repair work done within the USA? (I'm a Leupold scope user so do not care for hassells with customer service about NON warranty and warranty repairs) I've been spoiiled by good old USA Leupold CS non warranty repair dept.
Appears maybe the Digex C50 has a 3 year warranty BUT repair service itself is only available for 5 years? (seems only will be repaired for non-warranty repairs for maybe 2 years after the 3 year warranty expires)This is not a good thing when dealing with devices with electronics inside.
The only authorized USA repair for Pulsar scopes is in Texas. (so maybe can at least speak to someone in Customer Service who can speak and understand English.

I'm planning on getting the Pulsar C50 to mount on my Savage MSR 338 Federal their sold out now at Outdoor Legacy. Waiting for them to come back into stock A few other places do have them in stock but Outdoor legacy has been very helpful with me

I seen the same thing. the C50 in stock other places little bit higher priced. I'm in no hurry I'll hold out for Outdoor Legacy also. You can subscribe and get a email notice whren they come into stock.
Do you have any opinions/quams about the no non warranty repairs offered after 5 years as mentioned in Pulsar's site and/or maybe the owners manual?????

Yep, do not want to forget the really GOOD reasons/thoughts why a hunter WANTS buy another.
at least that doing the upgrade would be ANOTHER good reason to buy another.
