That first picture has 4 or so of my ice fishing spots for the north end and west side of the lake.
Been a lot of 20-30# Lake trout drug through ice in this area.
Glad you enjoyed my stomping grounds.

That is truly a great photo of Devils tower. I have spent several days there watching guys climb that thing. Way beyond my climbing skills.

The tower is (of course) the core of an ancient volcano. Some basalt cools in an unusual way, leaving hexagonal columns. This is an example of such. What we see now was once over a mile deep in the ground, all of which has now blown away by the wind. The West is covered with lava fields and ash deposits from volcanoes including Yellowstone and others along the NW coast. Every Western state has extinct volcanoes - plus many that are technically still active or only dormant.

Snickering at the translation of "Tetons" is cute. There are or were some much bawdier place names in the West. One near here in Utah is a small peak just north of where the transcontinental railroad originally ran. Probably named after one of the many bar girls who "entertained" rowdy railroad workers, the unmistakably shaped rock used to be known as "Mollie's Nipple."
Maps used to but no longer carry that evocative nomenclature.

I can remember looking at a topo map of Sherman County, OR years ago and seeing a ridge called N*****r Ridge.
The story was that a black fella passing through ran afoul of some of the locals and was hung in the only tree on that ridge.

Kauaii is beautiful. My wife and I were married there. Much more laid back than Maui.

I would humbly add one more.......The National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (The National Punchbowl Crater Cemetery).
Long ago, my new wife and I visited Ernie Pyle's grave there..........a very serene place.
