One down, two to go. Updated update.
Got our first cow baby on the ground yesterday afternoon. Cute little fart bounced up and started suckling within about 15 minutes. Gotta love those Aberdeen Angus.
This is all very new to my wife and she's very excited about it. She couldn't understand why I wasn't more excited and I had to explain that after the first few thousand it just wasn't a big deal anymore.
Who knew all that time I spent cowboyin' 35+ years ago would be payin' off now?

Me, too. I miss breaking ice on the pond in zero weather. Trying to get a crazy cow back through the fence after working in the hay field all day. Separating two bulls that would rather fight than, well, you know. Etc.

She is. I walked the dog down by her with the fence between 'em and she ran up and let him know that he was most definitely not allowed near her baby. I pity the Wiley that gets too close.

We had Herefords when I was young. Used an Angus bull with heifers. Still had to pull a few.
Good life when I didn't mind 16-hour days, six and a half days per week. 😕

There is no problem with cattle until the wife and kids name it and it becomes a pet. It’s hard to eat a pet. Only kidding. Amazing how little time and their on their feet.

Reminds me of the late 1950's winters.
My uncle would have me help him "pull pigs" in the farrow house.....up to our armpits.
Many were small enough to fit in your shirt pocket.......but too many were too small to survive.
Great memories though..........wish I could go back.......in time.

This one was dubbed D since it was born on June 6th. The next two will be T-Bone and Ribeye.

We always named the steers we raised for eating, we've had a T-bone, Brisket boy, Sir Loin and a couple others like that. The neighbor boys had named the one Sir Loin since the daddy bull was named King.🤣

I am not way up on cow/cowboy terminology. I thought those were calves, but since I don' know much I have to ask, do cow babies have cow baby daddies? And can a cow be a daddy? I am a little confused...

Cows is females and also used as a general term for bovines. Calf is a baby cow, however if a male (bull calf) has been neutered it is then a steer, Bulls are intact male cows and they are the baby daddies although with artificial inseminations they need not participate in intimacies with the momma cow 🤣
ETA: almost forgot, heifers are females that haven't been bred yet....

#3 hit the ground about an hour ago. Still real wobbly legged but it's up and on the teat already. That's all the babies for this year.
