I think this is of "general interest"
Given recent events and upcoming actions, one of the big topics is "hardening our schools". If this topic is considered 'political' or 'divisive', God help us all! The wailing and gnashing of teeth, from all sides of the political spectrum, is intense. Some support a "multi faceted approach" to keeping our children safe in schools. Some say it's a mental health issue. Others want armed security at every school in the country. Of course, still others blame the tool and call for the banning of "weapons of war". One idea floating around is to take the 40 billion in aid earmarked for Ukraine and devoting it to school security. Unfortunately, all of these 'remedies' involve action by elected officials (and unelected bureaucrats) submitting their numerous proposals, followed by months of debate and posturing. Each side will vilify the other ad nauseam while security is maintained at it's current, pathetic levels. After all is said and done, neither side will be happy with any outcome and it will take months, or years, more to implement any half-azzed solutions.
I've done a very little research myself and quickly discovered one simple fact that has been virtually ignored throughout this recent debate. Amidst all the talking heads from conservative and liberal media, as well as those speaking from both sides of the political aisle, I've heard barely a peep about the simplest, quickest, least expensive and least controversial solution to reduce, or eliminate, mass casualties in school shootings. LOCK THE DOORS! To date, not once has a school shooter breached a locked door. No student, faculty or staff member has been a victim when there was a locked door between them and the shooter. For as little as a few dollars per classroom, something as simple as a cheap, zinc plated throw bolt could protect dozens of students. For a few dollars more, a lockset that locks from the inside AND the outside (like the one on your own entry doors) could be utilized.
Of course, this doesn't rally any base or warrant nonstop debate in front of the the TV cameras. It only helps keep our schools safer. Perhaps that's not really of any interest, in an election year?

I work for the school system as a bus driver. I Agree 100% about locking the doors. However, it's not as simple as it seems. Every school is laid out different. Each school needs a comprehensive plan to control entrance.

1st, any solution would prevent them from running ads around election time, and they couldn't use the last casualty event for votes.
2nd, MOST schools(including the last one in TX) have locks AND protocols. When ONE person props a door open, then it all falls apart! I think the person who props the door open should be accountable too!
AND mental health is 100% the issue! Now, other than locking them up again in the asylums that were shuttered, I have no idea how to fix that! There is ZERO doubt that anyone who would kill innocent strangers(much less kids) is VERY mentally ill! How to fix that, well that's the 64 thousand $ question!
Our country needs to get back to FAMILY, God, and morals. Short of that, we will continue to fall as a whole. 😥

Mike55 is absolutely right in that they have tried to remove God from the equation totally. Moral and family values is what held the country together since are founding. They have printed enough money in the last two years so we should have ample enough to hire armed guard for each school. Some of the other programs can wait their turn.
Every little shooting now is being reported, but most of it you can see is gang related. Start shaking down gang members again, and quit crying about their civil rights. Build more prisons, and use them. After all it’s my civil rights that are being abused if you keep letting them out. I have no sympathy for those that join a gang and feel that it is so kind of profession, imprison them with long sentences. They are not compatible with society.
