Anybody grow up around Rambler/American Motors Cars
My mom had a 1966 Ambassador 990 in (Cortez Aqua Metallic) and then a ‘71 Matador wagon (Limelight Green) . They looked like these:
I have a lot of great family memories from time spent inside those two cars

I lived a few miles from AMC Headquarters building and my cousin worked there. I drove a '65 Rambler for ten years. They are just now tearing the building down to build condos and retail stores on the property.

Dad drove a '63 Rambler American station wagon for many years. Took many a camping trip in that car and can remember taking it to Eleven Mile Reservoir in Colorado to go ice fishing.

Yes I did. Grandparents had a Rambler Ambassador with push buttons to select gear. I had a Rambler when I went into the service. I let my younger brother drive it while I was deployed and he crashed and totaled it.

I have some uncles that were die hard American Motors fans.One of them still has a Javelin he bought when he was a teenager and he is mid 70s now.I think some of his sons got it running a while back,first time it was started in nearly 50 years.

I have showed this one before but since you asked, I owned this exact model 75 AMC Matador back in 78 thru 81 or so. I called it my faux Camaro! 😁
My dad had several Ramblers when I was growing up. He was what I would call a used car junkie. Always owned at least half a dozen at a time and more on occasion. One of the Rambler wagons became the perfect sleeping fort for me and a couple of brothers during the nice summer months. Used to shine skunks hitting on our garbage cans with the headlights at daybreak. Dad actually favored old VW buses, trucks, and even had a Carmangia!

Had an AMC Jeep CJ5 that was advertised with a bad engine. Went and took a look at it... sounded fine.. Man had taken it back to the AMC dealer and had an oil pump installed..no pressure. When he advertised it not much pressure showing after the new pump. I bought it anyway.. got it home an Wife was furious I bought something possibly needing a new engine.. I laughed and told her if it didn't have oil pressure the lifters would be rattling. Went and bought a manual oil gauge and installed it in the same hole in the dash. Not a thing wrong ..had great pressure. Drove it for 5 yrs and sold it for way more than I paid for it. Don't trust those electric gadget gauges.

Learned to drive in a 61 Classic manual overdrive. My first car was a 66 American wagon. 650.00 and it was mint.

One of the guys I worked with won a new 1975 AMC Matador from the McDonalds he was working at as a teen.

We had a 59 Rambler Ambassador station wagon and it had AC! Push button shift and duel mirrors, what a ride!

They made the 232 and 258 engines for their vehicles. These were good engines if cared for.
The original design came from international harvester inline sixes,
IH head gasket and valve cover gasket would interchange with the AMC.

A buddy of mine had a Rambler Scrambler back in the day, fast car.
Had a 315 horse 390 in it, a real beast for the time.

My folks bought a brand new 1959 wagon when I was about 12 yrs. old. Learned to drive in it later on.

One of the mechanics for the local dealer campaigned a Matador on the local dragstrip circuit. Did very well for years . Collier motors ( as mentioned on an episode of American Pickers ) has a dealership full of old AMC stuff . It is just a few miles from home

When I was discharged from the Army in '65, I bought a '58 Rambler. I loved those reclining seats that made a bed. Modesty (and the mods) keep me from explaining!

I bought a solid if not perfect car from a fellow mechanic at Kmart auto for 200$. 1970 Rebel wagon almost as above. Special car meant for utility cos. Soon I was a photographer on the road, setting up in dept stores. The car was full of 2 sets of photo gear and studio. I did that for 18 months. Never did anything to the car except gas, and very little of that. Constant 600-700 miles per tank. It took off downshifting into 2nd at 70 or so. Ruined a nice Coupe de Ville too on that job. The AMC would always show 46-47 MPG.

Watched an episode of Adam 12 some time back where Pete Malloy buys a brand new car. It is an AMC Matador that looks like the one I had and pictured above except for the color. Malloy sure was proud of that car!
Reed has to use Petes Matador for something and has an accident. Priceless 😁

Speaking of "long gones" I remember walking through the lot of a Hudson dealership when I was a boy. There were Desotos and Studebakers and Plymouths, oh my! Had a friend whose Dad doted on those little Nash Metropolitans and had several.
Nash and Hudson merged to form AMC in 1954, by the way.

We had such good service out of the two my Mom drove that my older sister got a Hornet 2dr sedan when she started driving. Similar to this one

Some NASH/Ramblers looked like a bath tub up side down and hard to tell the front from the back.
Remember a itty bitty 2 door one,
