Mauser K98
Trying to identify a Mauser rifle that looks like it has Chinese markings on top of the reciever and a large flower symbol. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

That is the Emperor's Chrysanthemum. There is no way that rifle is anything but Japanese. The Type 38 and the Type 99 both closely followed the Mauser pattern but were still unique, original designs.

Looks to be a type 38 per the 2 vent holes

would be Arisaka type 38 -6.5 caliber.

And quite desirable, surrendered Japanese rifles had the "mum" ground off so as to not insult the Emperor. A clear stamp indicates a battlefield pickup. Assuming it has not been "sporterized."

You have a Japanese Type 35 Navy Rifle, similar in design to the Type 38 but rarer. It is also 6.5 arisaka caliber but has a different rear sight. Yours looks like it is missing the upper hand guard.
