I wondered when you were going to be able to see the smoke plume or convection tower.

Bright side is it’s a short haul for the helicopters from Lake Mary Ronan and the big lake, so lots of cycles per day.

Wonder if they have any CL415’s or Canadairs attached to the fire yet?

Hope it turns out well for you.

I don't know if they're 415's or 515's but there are at least 4 of the scooper planes working the fire. I've seen video of them flying over another forum friends house and scooping out of Flathead. We've had them flying to and from the fire right up and down our canyon here.

For those that haven't seen them in action this video shows some of them that belong to the Croatian Air Force.

Really cool Canadian built planes that can move a LOT of water in a hurry.

The fire has died down again for the night. It creeps a little closer every day.

We're getting smoke today, not sure if it's from your fire Steve, or the fire south of us in Idaho. The wind isn't blowing much....yet

We've got pretty good winds today, 9 MPH average and it's kinda swirlin' around. Mostly from the south, though.

I'm prayin' for nice 5 MPH winds out of the north to blow it right back into itself! And rain! Rain would be great!

Here's a pretty informative map. Play around with the different layers to get the views you want.

    ArcGIS Web Application

The dang fire's over 20,000 acres now. Sounds like it may be arson caused. There were a couple of other fires over by Bigfork that were arson caused but they got 'em out pretty quick. I'd like 5 minutes alone with that son of a bitch.

Yessir. Started in grass and the wind blew it pretty hard to the north and east.

From the west is good. From the south would be the worst. North would be ideal! Can you try and arrange that for me?

The fire activity was way down yesterday and so far today, though it's early yet. The winds have been doing pretty much just what we needed them to do which is to blow back into the leading edge of the fire. Amazingly we saw no smoke cloud or column at all yesterday.

The fire's right at 22,000 acres now. The initial burn the first day was fast and big as it was mostly grass and was driven by a stiff breeze. Growth yesterday was just a few hundred acres.

Whatever you folks are doin' to help, keep it up! It's workin'!

Not only the west but East Tennessee too. A few years ago in Nov. 2016 a couple of teenagers set the world on fire around Gatlinburg. A lot of people were left homeless and 14 of them died and 190 were injured. It destroyed 2,460 building including houses and businesses and burned 17,900 acres of forest.

Dolly Parton stepped up and spent millions of dollars helping the people in the area which is where she was born and raised.

I heard they had another big fire a couple of months back but nothing like the one in 2016 and that one was caused by some downed power lines.

That's my old stomping ground. I grew up not to far from there.

Smitty, I remember the Gatlinburg fire well, It was approaching Christmas, and my daughter was doing the "Elf on the Shelf" thing for the youngest grandson. One morning, the Elf was nowhere to be found. Instead there was a handwritten note that said. "Gone to help fight the Gatlinburg fire. Be back in a day or 2." Maybe I should send him west?

  • NeoBlackdog

I'm sure he'd be appreciated Ranger! Seems somehow appropriate that the Elf from the Shelf would be helping fight the 'Elmo' fire.

    Kinda tickles me...

Praying for your safety, and favorable weather. Several years ago, a train with a bad wheel bearing lit up almost 20 miles of R-O-W. It spread North toward our place. We loaded all of our pictures, cash, important papers, and a lot of clothes getting ready to get out. Luckily the wind changed and pushed it toward a big fire break the Forest Service had made. I volunteered to assist after that, and we spent 3 or 4 days putting out hot spots. I ran 4 tanks of gas through my ATV, which was the only way to access most of the property.
