Silicon or plumbers putty?
I am replacing the gasket to the drain as it is too high and traps water. Plumber putty or silcon?

Plumbers putty is made to be able to take things apart at some future date, silicone not so much. I recall having to deal with things on my job that were put together with silicone, almost destroying the parts before getting them apart.

There are applications for silicon in wet situations but not for a drain.

Well, which one, then? In its most common forms it can be used in industrial construction with clays, silica sand, and stone. Silicates are used in Portland cement for mortar and stucco, and mixed with silica sand and gravel to make concrete for walkways, foundations, and roads. They are also used in whiteware ceramics such as porcelain, and in traditional silicate-based soda-lime glass and many other specialty glasses. Silicon compounds such as silicon carbide are used as abrasives and components of high-strength ceramics. And the pure stuff is used in the semiconductor industry.
