don't allways work. I had a bow/cross support, on my trucks tonnaue cover break few weeks back. the bow is metal in sort of triangle shape but the end is plastic sort of upside down longhorn. it broke off right where it goes in the metal part. of course the makers are long out of business so no spare parts are to be found. I glued the old piece back together but I guess it wouldn't take the vibrations at road spead of the tonnaue cover flapping. I gave the piece to my son who said he could 3-D print it, got it back and had a little sanding to do but got it to work.
few days later noticed it had sagged down some, opened the tailgate and the part he printed didn't hold up to the vibration/heat and had bent almost 45 degrees. So yesterday I spent most of the day in the garage cutting up a piece of 2x8 and sanding and chiseling/shaping a piece to use for the end. It may not be the prettiest but it held up to a trip to the VA and back, 150 miles of interstate speed, sometimes I guess you just have to go old school and engineer things yourself.......

I have found being a jack of all trades and master of none and big time back yard do it all
comes in handy on such projects . my sons use to give me grief for keeping a lot of old junk and parts around but now they come back home asking or looking thru it to repair something
sad part we live in a throw away environment unlike when we were younger and just about thing was made to be repaired ( over build in many cases to last two life times ) and to have parts replaced when they wore out or broke
for several reasons most every thing is a use it till it brake it and get a new one if you can get parts I have noticed the replacement cost if you can even find one are 1/2 at least the cost of a entire new one any way

My family is the same way ,always on my case about my shop and stuff. Thing is that I can almost always lay my hands on the parts needed to fix most everything on the place . Then they don't argue so much . That's what I do ,I fix things .

People bring me things to work on that everyone else has gave up on.Sometimes I can fix it,sometimes not.
