There are plenty of models where these bugs don't exist. This is a lemon design.

It appears you have put a lot of afterthought into this. Don

Last new we we bought was about 2 months into the pandemic shutdown and we had no real choices take what they had or go without, well the one we got is side by side and on the fridge side no shelves adjust and barely a quart of milk will fit only on top shelf. Ice maker quit last week and luckily I searched youtube else would have cost me a lot, seems there is a reset that the manual doesn't mention... technology has maybe gotten better but quality has gone down hill.

I sure as hell wouldn't have selected this one off a showroom floor.

In the midst of the pandemic when there were no fridges to be found because of the supply chain problems, our 20 year old refrigerator died and no parts were available. A friend has an appliance store and managed to wrangle a GE for us that sounds like a clone of yours. What is the point of cafe doors if both have to be opened to get anything that isn't on a door shelf? It has the "new" never needs cleaning condenser and I have it on my honey-do list to pull out the fridge and clean around said condenser. Many reports online say the claim of never clean is bunk. I wouldn't have bought this one but wasn't going to wait months to get one I liked better, so now we are stuck. 😖 Bob

You will only have to put up with it for about five years if you keep it, that the normal lifespan nowdays.

Got a friend who's Samsung that's trashed because they can't get a chip or a fan. They spent silly money for it and half measure repairs. They also got a fridge "nook" that might be the issue (at least I think it is) because you can't get enough air circulation to cool the heat exchanger. But what do I know I buy the cheap fridges.

    What brand is it?

This place we moved into last year has a counter depth 42" wide Sub Zero that's configured similarly.

I'm dreadin' the day we have to replace this beast.

Regarding the fridge nook . I had the same issue. Newer double door fit in the hole but with only about 3/4 ,inch clearance on side and top . I cut out the sides and mounted two 6x18 louvered vents on each side at the bottom to allow for air circulation . Seems to be working ok ,so far.

I guess some of the models they make now are meant to be placed into a nook. The heat exchanger design accounts for minimal air flow around the unit, I guess.

this fridge is about 5 years old . Got a deal from a customer doing a remodel. pretty sure it was designed to be freestanding .I know enough about refrigeration to be dangerous . Heat is an issue and i figure the more free air accessible to the unit the better off it is. Thats what prompted me to install the vents.

Being a very simple man, as long as the BEER is cold and the leftovers keep for a day or two, I am happy!

All I will say is don't EVER buy a Whirlpool. Mine quit, "unrepairable" one year and two mo. after purchase. 1 year warranty, unless you bought the "extended warranty." What a POS.

I was left high and dry. (Lost around $200 in food. "Not Covered.") Beyond PO'd.

Wrote a letter to Whirlpool, (after being left hanging.) that I would tell EVERYONE that asked about Fridges, my experience with their product and lack of Customer support. What a POS. Don't buy a Whirlpool, under any circumstances. I know I will Not.

Yes, well if you can't fit all the beer you want in there would you think it ok?

Yep, they do not make them to last very long now days.

Can you just try to imagine anything that you buy NEW now days still being ok after 30-40 years?

Fossil fueled Vec's, appliances, Brandons EV's for example.

We have a new GE that came in our new place that sounds about like yours Randy, and I don't care for it either. Hardly any space to put tall items in it, as well as very limited storage racks in the doors. Once in a while, while making ice or something, it sounds like a MRI machine. I just try and use my old beer fridge in the garage....

My current fridge is an apt. size ALANZ..........10.5 cu ft. Got it on sale from Amazon and am very happy with it. I think it was around $489 delivered. It is cold, cold.

I do live alone in an efficiency, so I don't need a big fridge. If I get 5 years out of it and have to buy a replacement..........I figure I am ahead.

I'm not spending $2000 or more on a fridge..............I used to deliver those big name brand suckers for Lowe's............to suckers...........who had problems with them.
