It had one of those &#@(*% synthetic corks, and it was a full blown emergency. Finally resorted to the tool box and adaption of anything handy. 😂🙄

First problem is that you do not have a "back up cork screw".
I'm guessing you tried using the broken one by giving it a pull instead of using the levers.
Driving the cork into the bottle, well, it was an emergency.

What, you don't have a Swiss Army Knife?
Perhaps if you inserted a drywall screw into the cork and then pulled on it with the pliers.
You'll never have to worry about it again because now she knows to bring either a screw top bottle or a box of wine. In other words, you just became a cheap date! 😀 Bob

I have a scar on the tip of my trigger finger from this very same situation! Using a jackknife without a locking blade to pull a cork was a very bad idea. I'm just thankful it was RED wine. 😁

The root problem was corkscrew -- singular. We don't drink a lot of wine in our house, but I can think of at least six corkscrews around here, counting a couple of fake Swiss knives. And there may be others I can't recall just now.
One would think that a forgemonkey might be able to cobble up a handsomely rustic corkscrew, perhaps with an antler handle, wouldn't one?

A drill and a straw. I suppose a nail might do in a pinch. I remember seeing somewhere if you slap the bottom of the bottle this action will walk the cork out. It will make a snow globe of the sediment in the bottle.

I forget what those "reverse" screw small bits are that remove broken bolts/screws but I've used them before.

There is a corkscrew in your picture. Screw it in and pull. You don’t need the wing thingies or the broken rim at all.

Not very observant, eh ,,,,,,,, the tongue and groove pliers were used to pull the in place corkscrew, which pulled out of
the synthetic cork. 😉

...Your first mistake was buying a wine that needed a corkscrew...you could have bought a half gallon of MadDog 20/20 with a screw cap, that had been aged for 2, maybe 3 days, for under $10...
