Shooting bench build in pictures
I used some composite decking that was given me.
I cut two 8ft 4x4 posts to make the legs
Added leg braces. Angle steel from an old bed frame.
The 4 foot height is perfect for me standing. I may cut the legs shorter and add an adjustable seat.
I've got about $60 in it plus hardware.
Need to come up with a design for a brass catcher.

I like it a lot Jim! I have been looking for one of those big round wooden cable spools to make a sitting bench. Once upon a time they were everywhere and mostly give aways but not so much anymore.

You could also do something along the lines of mounting a piece of 1" PVC vertically on the side , and then make a frame out of 1/2" PVC with a handle on it (like a lollipop) attach the mesh and slide it down into the 1" PVC.

Nice job. I have a permanent bench at my 100 yard mark and a movable bench that I use for my 25 and 50 yard mark. I used 4x4 as well for my 100 yard but put the legs in the ground with cement. Again nice work.

I'm still using the original bench I built after moving here in 1980. Hedge (osage orange) posts set 3' deep, white oak framing, and top deck(top has been replaced once). The kids want me to tear it out and build a nicer setup with overhead cover. I told them whenever THEY are ready to do the work, I'll come up with the materials.
Brass catcher? The best I've found is a CALDWELL with a large hooped opening and metal base. It is moveable and doesn't get in the way when not needed. Big enough to catch semi-auto handgun brass when firing from the bench. Pull the support hoops out of the base and it lies flat. A small sandbag or even a staple gun keeps it in place if windy.

Buy a cheap dip net, like one made for butterflies. Make sure it is cotton, or something that won't melt instantly with hot brass.

Looks good. One small refinement I would suggest would be to round off the corners of those angle irons where they stick out from the legs, so you don't wind up with bloody shins. (or upper legs).
