Suggestions on Truck tires
Took my car hauler in and had 4 new Goodyear endurance tires installed the other day. They are made in the USA.. and rated for a higher speed than the chinese ones. After the install the service man looked at my tires and told me... Looks like you need some tires .. I replied I know... they are the best Goodyear truck tires made E range and have the kevlar belts ..however their 60k mile warranty is useless... the tires have 23k mile and will need replaced very soon. They will pro rate for some new shoes. Any suggestions on a 4wd street/ off road tire?

my mechanic just talked me into a set of Falklans, the tread was a little rougher than I really wanted but he said he had them on his truck and they didn't make any noise. He was RIGHT, they are as quiet as a street tire and I think he said they had a 50,000 mile warranty, but it is just like you said about worthless as warranties go. He had about 30,000 on his and they still had around half tread or so left and it was about $850. out door for all four, mounted and balanced.....
I liked them so much I got a set for the wifes suv with a little less aggresive tread and they came with a 70,000 mile waranty, we shall see how they hold up. factory had uniroyals on both my truck and her suv and they didn't make it but about 40,000 miles on each vehicle, hers were closer to $600 for all 4...

...Ive only bought Michelin for the last 25 years...for Suburban, 4x4 Utility, 1/2 ton PU, 3/4 ton PU...I wont jinx myself and say how many flat tires Ive ever had over that time, but it can be counted on one finger...dont plan on buying any other brand in the future, Michelin tires have held up for me...

285/70R17 - 33 inch Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT is what I put on my Jeep a couple months ago. Only complaint on them is they pick up and throw rocks just as bad as BFG AT KO2's they replaced. They also come in an AT tread that is just as deep as the MT's with a little more siping.

Michelins are good street tires but I cant find any with a more aggressive tread . BF Goodrich came on the truck and lasted 28k mile till 2 of them came apart..one had a big bubble on the sidewall. Glad that didn't happen on the way home from New Mexico. The goodyears are worn out 3/32 left in 23k mile. Most likely will go back with the K0 2

I've had GREAT luck with Hankook Dynapro At2 tires, if they make em in your size. I have the XL version. I liked em so much, I put them on a second vehicle. Very quite, ride great, not terrible expensive, and they do good in light mud use. They are great for occasional 4x4 use, but they aren't mud tires.

I put Michelins on all my 4x4's, highway tread.
I live on rough roads with lots of flint rock and arrow heads. I've had very few flats on my Michelins and then it's nails, not puncture from flint rocks.
HT tread will get you several more miles because more rubber on the road and they ride and drive good down the turnpike. (no tread noise and can talk to other people in the vec while crusing at max speeds)
At one time I went with other brands and all kinds of tread designs but found I was just kidding myself wasting money on aggressive treads that I really did not need on 4x4"s.
But to run with the big dogs and make your vec look mean you need them big wrap around Mickey Thompson types.
Cooper tires has always left a bad taste in my mouth. Some people seems to like them coopers, but I've seen several of their tires goose egg at 5K miles, even the 8 and 10 ply 16 inch size.

Let's see, I bought a new set of COOPER winter tires for my work pickup 4 years ago. That's the first and only new tires I've bought for a decade. Primarily farm use vehicles are shod with TreadWright remans. My work pickup runs through summer on Cooper highway tread standard load bought as high tread used from an ebay seller. No real warranty but I can't even remember back far enough to recall having received a worthwhile adjustment on a tire failure on a locally purchased NEW tire.

I’ve had great use from Toyo tires. Had them on several trucks and got long life from them. Also have had great use from Dean Tires(now owned by Cooper). My Frontier has Deans on it now(came with it when I bought it) and have used Dean’s on cars in the past.

I have had Michelins on the diesel Silverado for all it's 200K miles. No regrets.

Be real honest when you answer the following question. How much time do you actually spend 'off road'? Everyone thinks they need an 'off road' tire, maybe 5% or less actually do. I'd suggest an all season type tire. I use these on my GMC 2500HD and love 'em.

I only buy Michelin LTX M/S after the tires that came with the vehicle are done, never wore a set of Michelins out.
I like the MS (mud and snow) Michelins because they ride smooth like a car tire and they are the best on wet roads (got a lot of wet in Florida).
My 2018 Silverado is just about at the new tire stage now ............. time to start getting prices

Michelin does make good tires, but like all tires they do wear out. I got about 65k out of last Michelins, have about 30k on hankooks now, more than half tread left(also half price)

I have sold only abut 30,000 tires over the last few years, here is some truism's
1) Aggressive treads, like mudder tires will not last with primarily highway use. The higher the speeds, the bigger the loads the less mileage you will get. The first 25% will be gone in a flash.
2) It is HEAT that destroys tire rubber, tire inflation even 2-5 pounds low builds heat and wears out tires a lot faster. So does fast cornering, aggressive acceleration and heavy loads.
3) Tire rotation, do it every 5-7.5K miles or buy tires more often.
4) There is a HUGE difference between a tire wear warranty and a tire wear rating, be aware of the difference and if they are warrantied you better document the rotation and pressures or they will say tough luck. The life rating, traction, temperature and tread wear come from the fellers that make that tire, there is no industry wide standard except DOT.
5) Michelin is a premium brand, you pay a lot for the name. Bridgestone/ Firestone and Continental/General are also premium tires at a more competitive price, Cooper/Mastercraft can also be considered Tier one tires. I run my truck with heavy loads 1,000-1,250 miles a week. I ran Michelin for 350,000 miles I got about 60,000 miles out of a set. They are great. I now run Firestone Transforce AT2's and they last, drum roll please, about 60,000 miles a set and are 70 bucks each less costly.
6) EVERY SINGLE major manufacturer has some of their tires made in Thailand, India, China and even Vietnam. You need to make sure the tire you are getting is made where you feel comfortable. But, rubber trees do not grow in the USA, all rubber in American made tires is imported along with over 1/2 the steel used in them.

4... They took care of the rotations... They gave me back $590 67% of original cost of the GoodYears... Plus they had a $110 BFG online discount..that the salesman took off at the store... I don't even pay tire disposal..

I have watched tire come off the assembly line at the Michelin plant in Greenville SC.There will be several Michelins,then several BF Goodrich.Michelin is a French owned company,but they came to upstate SC in the mid 70s and helped turn an area that depended on a dying textile industry to an economic boom area for the entire state. The employees were well paid and taken care of.The majority retired after 30 or 40 years wealthy.

The main reason for my statement ("never wore a set of Michelin's out") is that I have never kept a vehicle longer than about 100,000 miles give or take a few thousand miles.
I have always wished that when you buy a new vehicle, you could choose the tire brand of your choice prior to delivery.
