SFs link sums it up nicely. Myself, I go with ceramics.

depends on how soon you want you rotors to wear out. by the way, i recently replaced the front brakes on my silverado. i ordered from rock auto and ordered Raybestos parts, they have been around for a very long time and were always considered excellent brake parts. when i got my parts in all were made in China. take that for what its worth.

On my 2003 Silverado I replaced the pads at 200,000 miles with semi-metallic.

It seems you just can't anything to last these days.

In my experience, semi-metallic often start making annoying sounds fairly early on. After this has happened countless times, on numerous vehicles, I'll never again use them on passenger vehicle (car, SUV, light truck). However, they do seem to last longer and I like them just fine, maybe even prefer them on my towing rig where I don't care as much about noise and comfort.

Do you want/need the best braking action possible at the expense of replacing rotors more often?

I recently left a brake pad outside shop and it got rained on and noticed next day the pad looked like solid piece of rusted steel. Few days later it rusted like solid steel.

That has got to reduce the life of the rotors. Rotor wear instead of pad wear.

Appeared from the amount of metal rust on the pad that both the rotor and pad would need replaced when doing the next brake job.

This brake pad was not for a electric car. Brain thought. Reverse the electric engine for braking and no brake pads required. Do not tell this to Brandon.

All I can tell you that is when my wife backs out her Automobile with ceramic pads they squeal.

Grouch Attack's Chevy SUV thing-a-ma-bob had severe brake squeal. Replaced pads with OEM type replacement--still squeals.

    I don't use ceramic pads.
