HELP I.D THIS OLD GUN
I bought this what appeared to be a remington model 11 with a savage stock..after i got it to my shop i removed the stock and it is a model 11 but what stock is this ? has same checkering as my model 11,s but the wood comes up to the top of the hump giving a false picture that the receiver is rounded..i,ve placed it be side my model 11 everything is exact except the trigger group is further back out past the back of the receiver ..serial number is 7890xxB. I HAVE A PIC and can get more .no barrel code on it only full for choke and shell
size 2 3/4 only...please is anyone know how many remington did this way or any info would be great thanks

Why would you want to xx the serial number. That's silly.

It seems you have a Remington Model 11 Sportsman, made around 1950. The stock set came from a Savage model 755 or 775 and replaced the Remington wood. I cannot tell you why the trigger group is set farther back than normal, as examples of the Browning A5, the Savage 755 all have similar trigger groups to the regular Remington Model 11.

The B following the serial# appears to be non-factory.No images of the V-shaped fit of metal and wood above the trigger have turned up on an internet search of Savage and Remington .Both the stock and the receiver were modified to make this fit.
