    The so called leader released more oil for Dec from the reserves... Said Quote... When oil goes to 70 dollars a barrel we will replenish the oil reserves.

    I had a thread like this just a while ago. I figure 20-50 small nuke plants across the nation should work out pretty well. Some areas near cesspool cities like Chicago, New York and LA may need two small-medium nukes for just their electric needs in transportation.

    The Idiot-in-Charge is releasing fuel from the Strategic Reserves, in order to artificially reduce the price of fuel, prior to the Mid-Terms. What could Possibly go Wrong? 🤔

    Even the Saudi's have said the Biden Administration really pushed hard for them to not decrease Oil production, until After the Mid-Terms. 😒

    People must be REALLY Stupid to not see what is going on.

    The "Strategic Reserve" is there for when we REALLY need it. Not for some Political stunt.

    Just Stupid, short sided Politics in action. Really Stupid.

    Sure if all 50 states went all electric vehicle you'll also get the power company putting out ads stating not to use electricity during the hours of 1600 to 2100. This is just one state with a very small amount of ev cars.

    Power companies are still having a hard time operating during hot summer months with just the added use of air conditioning. If more EV's come into the picture, there will be black outs all over.


    The lefties in charge haven't got a clue about how things really work. They just skip all the planning processes and expect to go directly to the finish line. Pretty sure their playbook comes right out of the Monopoly board game!

    I have been trying to come up with a way to show greenies that switching to all electric cars and trucks is a pie in the sky idea until we fill the power generation issue and the battery storage issue. I think I came up with a way.

    POWER:

    A gallon of #2 Diesel generates the equivalent of 41KWh. The USA burns about 128 million gallons of Diesel per day. That is a LOT of KWh.

    A Gallon of Gasoline generates the equivalent of 33.7 KWh The USA burns about 369 Million gallons of gasoline each day. That is a LOT of KWh.

    Total US electric generation from all sources was 4.116 Billion KWh.

    The load at the end is balanced with production, electrons are going to go someplace. To replace the gas and diesel with electric is going to take a LOT of power. The math is beyond me but somewhere out there is how many average generating plants it would take to remove gas and diesel from use. People would be amazed to learn that nuke plants power about 20% of our grid, all out of 60 plants. If we built another 50-60 plants using nukes for power we could all drive electric cars with nary a concern.

    If I done figgered this correctly, that translates into 13.6 billion kWH for gas and 4.6 kWH for diesel per day.

    Right now we generate roughly 10.4 billion kWH of electrical power.

    Our transportation secretary suggests we should transition to all electric vehicles by 2050.

    To do so, would mean we have to triple our electrical generating capacity in less than 3 decades.

    I really do not see this ending well.

    Failure is their plan. If you were purposefully trying to destroy America, what would you do differently?

    I know of one 40(ish) year old nuke plant that is going to have to close because it can't even be retro-fitted to meet current standards. It took something like 3-4 years to build the first time and the replacement hasn't even begun so how's that working out?

    That sounds good John, but it is the CHARGING PROCCESS, along with the production of and disposal of batteries for EV's that puts the efficiency well below that percentage.

    A valid point. Modern gasoline engines deliver 20 to 30 percent of the potential energy to the wheels. This compares to the 90%.

    The balance of the roughly 50% thermal efficiency is lost through other drains on the engines. Couldn’t find a direct comparison for EV’s, but from the 90% we will need to deduct powering the electronics, lighting, heat and A/C, etc, which will bring the 90% down by at least 20-30 points, depending upon weather, daylight, etc., just as with gasoline.

    Heating the vehicle is the big one, of course, as a gas engines can tap into a waste product, where the EV has to directly drain the battery for heat.


    The basic point that we will have to triple our generating capacity, however, remains valid, although you are correct to point out that it is not a direct calculation, and may be a little less.

    That brings up something I wonder about, Don. Many of the rated range for EV's are pretty impressive but in the real world, what are the ranges when it's 90+ degrees out and you need the A/C or 10 degrees and you need heat? I've never seen those numbers and none of my friends are rich enough to spend $60-100K for something that good just to run errands. I did see a video of a guy with a new Ford truck pulling a trailer w/ a model A. The range was laughable (except for the guy who bought one).

    The green revolution put the cart before the horse. We need the power generation first, then the eventual slow switch to the efficiency of electric motor propulsion. Wind will work some except for the disposal of old turbine blades. Solar is noce but it does have huge environmental impacts and the waste is very nasty. Mining the stuff needed to make solar is energy intensive and leaves toxic stuff behind.

    Then we need to look at the electric motor, it uses a lot of copper, copper is already in shirt supply. Aside from all the issues of batteries, fires and what not it is just being jammed down our throats for no good reason.

    If the greenies would agree to allow 40-50 nuke plants to be constructed I might, if given enough information, agree with a small part of their agenda. Until then, I like diesel, gasoline, natural gas and hope for hydrogen in the near future to power our transportation needs in a cost effective manner.

    to me the bottom line would be cost per mile, gas, or electric and I don't remember ever seeing that statistic, then miles per tank/charge......

    Not to mention the cost difference between the vehicle types.

    A $20,000 to $40,000 savings sure would buy a bunch of gasoline. 😉

    @Don McManus I was wondering if you could recalculate. Out POTUS just announced he intends to shut down coal production plants. I think that means more nuclear plants would be needed but I don't know how many.
