Purchase Denied
I went to a Walmart to buy my grandson a single barrel 20 gauge for his birthday. When filling out the 4473 on the computer I accidently punched in a yes when I should have punched a no.I guess the girl at the counter that looked it over and missed it.I had my drivers license and CWP but I was denied the purchase. The young lady told me it would be 30 days before I could buy a firearm after being denied. Is that federal law or a Walmart rule? I forgot to ask at the time.

I have no idea. Once a customer was denied we, the gun shop, were out of the loop.

Guessing that it's the Feds because Walmart only gets a copy of the filled out 4473 for their records.

Maybe they would consider that a straw purchase, where you buy a gun for someone else.

do you mind saying which question you mistakenly answered wrong ?
I too would wager it's a Fed ruling, not Walmart.

I will go along with the federal boys saying NO. I am sure there is enough FFL holders on here to say
I would just have my wife or sons buy the present

It is totally legal to buy a gun for someone else if it is a gift, etc.
It is ILLEGAL to buy a gun for someone else who couldn't buy it for themselves (prohibited possessor).

Having a license to carry obviates the need to call in the NICS check, at least where I live. (Texas)

This also in SC.^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Same for NC that is if you are a resident.

You answered one of the "no" questions "yes" that ends the sale instantly. No background check started. The local gun shop thing to do would be to do a new form , destroy the 1st, and proceed with the sale. But a Wal-mart drone can't deviate from protocol. You are fine to go to another retailer and get a shotgun. Any use of your name or address would trip the system at that Walmart for 30 days.

"Maybe they would consider that a straw purchase, where you buy a gun for someone else."
Would the recipient of the 'gift' be old enough to buy the gun on his own? You could buy it and 'loan' it to him until he's old enough.

A gift is a legitimate and legal purchase.
You are the buyer.
Always read every word of the useless form. It changes over time.

Under the new rules a denied check now sends the info to local law enforcement for further investigation thank the Biden/Merrick team is also Walmart is a customer of Bloomberg's everyone for gun safety

Local LE has no resources to track down the violations & laws for every person with a denial from NICS.
The NICS regs should be changed to permit a "Determine eligibility" box on the 4473, & allow anyone to submit a request without fear of arrest. Trump could have done that when he was president, but chose not to.
Seems like we can't win.
