having driven big trucks over 40 years I think its totally stupid , first off, if the driver doesn't know who's beside him, regardless of the lane he's in or they are, he needs to pull his head out .
2nd, as in the picture , if the truck is driving in the left lane and not moving over, them screw him, he deserves to be passed in which ever side is open
let me add to it ,, IF I'm passing some one and I'm still in the left lane Because I'm trying to put a decent gap between us, Before i come back over and some jerkwad shoots down my right side because he's in a big hurry, I'm not going to be very happy with him and will try to educate him on the error of his ways

Brother is an owner/operator. Notices two crotch rockets behind him as he signals to exit off interstate. CR#1 whips around him on the left. At point where he needs to nose into exit lane, doesn't see CR#2.
Looks down through small door window in his passenger side door. CR#2 was passing him in the exit lane. CR#2 almost became a hood ornament.

We call those guys on the CRs organ donors, but if the 18 wheeler would have gotten him you are right-- hood ornamnet

Some times you just have to pass on the right. Problem is that some people think the left lane goes somewhere the right lane doesn't.
