I came across a pair of S & W grips for a model 29 a few years ago at a garage sale. The guy had switched them for rubber Pachmayr grips and put the wood ones in the plastic box. I offered him $20 and he accepted. Took me a while to see what they would fit and listed them on fleabay. On the second day of the auction they were at $420 and I emailed the bidder and asked why are they so high, did a make an error in the listing. He said these grips are from the late 50's or early 60's and in mint condition and you never see something like this anymore. He collected handgun grips but the price went too high for him and they went to someone in Texas for $ 705.00

Most likely they were "coke" style grips. They were factory on the S&W guns from that era, and named for their profile of looking like a "coke" bottle from the rear, with some slight palm swell. The roper style, started by Walter Roper are similar in their profile, but slimmer.
