Well, almost free....If you are a 50% disabled vet you can get an annual California fishing license for only $8.64 no matter what state you live in, resident or non resident. My daughter just got one after one phone call and filling out a minimal application. One application and you are registered for life. BTW, a non resident license is $145.80 and a resident is $60.00 so it is well worth the time.
