Micro groove

In my opinion the issue with micro-groove was that the barrels were often not reamed completely smooth.

It's definitely one of the issues, whether or not better reaming would fix the entire issue.

If I am correct, then the quality of the bores probably tends to vary, so there would seem to be a chance you might do OK even if the critics are right.

I had a few Micro-Groove guns years ago, none were very accurate. With lead bullets they leaded up pretty fast.

i have shot many many hard cast bullets in a Marlin 1894, with good accuracy and never any abnormal leading, practically none at all. The rifle’s bore looked very clean, the microgrooves and lands sharp. I loaded mostly 2400 powder and Lyman 429421 approximately 265 grains, cast from wheel weights with a small amount of tin added, sized .430”. The overall cartridge length was a bit too long for good feeding from the magazine, but worked fine as a two-shot, one in the chamber and one in magazine. Maybe my particular barrel was better than most?

Literally thousands of rounds through a couple Marlin 39A .22’s. Accuracy in these rifles was always very good, and leading was never an issue. I never was sure that micro-groove barrels were any problem whatsoever, in my experience they were great.

I have a bunch of Marlin micro groove rifles in various calibers and haven't had any issues with accuracy or leading in any of them so far but, its's only been 50 or 60 years so who knows …………………………
