Update Diane
I was Westy's driver at the Point and Diane was the Dean's Secretary and Deans Office Administrator. One day she invited me for a cup of coffee and we will be married 59 years on Jan. 11th. Along the way we raised two beautiful children, Heather and Martin.
In '89 we drove across North America and saw first hand this beautiful country USA that we live in. Crossed the border at Fargo into Regina and across Canada. Up the Alaska Highway to the pipeline and Artic Circle. Along the way and back Diane knitted two sweaters and we never had a argument. She also wrote a diary of the whole trip.
Diane has been in the hospital for around ten days now and this afternoon we had a meeting with the internal medicine team. Chemo was always a no go and tonight they ruled out Radiation for the Atypical Carcinoma. In a few days Diane will come home and be in Hospice. We had a great Journey but Diane has come to the end of the Trail. It is in God's hands now.
I don't know what the future holds. It was always my dream to return to my Native Virginia with my sweetheart and finish out the remaining years of our lives in Fluvanna County.
Please keep fighting for our 2A. Tonight my heart is broken. -------------------------------------Ray

Lost my Sunshine in January -- after a 5-year fight with cancer she got fungal pneumonia and it was more than she could fight. She passed peacefully to a better place which has been a comfort to me as the day and months have passed.
Tell the stories of her life and she will live forever.
Peace to you and yours.

@4205raymond & @Wild Turkey I truly hope that someone is just clicking on the sad face & doesn't understand the disagree feature. Your situations are very sad & we support you. May our lost love ones live in our memories forever.

I always feel helpless in a thread like this. I, too, will offer up my prayers and well wishes, but sure wish there was something else I could do. When something breaks, I fix it. If it doesn't exist, and I have the capability, I build it. With things like this?
Stay strong, and if you need us we're all just a keyboard away.

Update: Diane was transported home today by the Life Support Ambulance around 4pm. The Hospice nurse was with us for about four hours. Diane is in the TV room in a hospital bed. She is as comfortable as possible and surrounded by love, her little dog Willie and my '37 Winchesters.
Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. -----------------------------Ray

12/11/2022 (pm) ---------I really can't do clean up on Diane at this point by myself. I usually do what i call one half clean up at night. If i have one aide to help me I can do it all. In the morning Hospice does a super job with two people.
My daughter Heather came down from Delaware County (over 2 hours) Sat to help me. We share the work and alternate holding Diane's hand.
Diane reduced her eating over two weeks ago and for four days she has eaten nothing. She has progressed to not taking her meds. not drinking, not taking her inhalers or nebulizer. We get a little moisture in her mouth with the little pink sponges. We tried crushing her meds with water but she rejects it. They are trying to get liquid form. They have bumped up her Morphine and decreased dose time interval.
Diane has been a giver and not a taker her whole life. She took care of her mother for ten years and her aunt for a couple of years. She was the hardest working Civil service worker I have ever known. She helped many of the Cadets at West Point get in the Med School Program. Many of them called her Mom.
My daughter has to return home tomorrow as she is a horse person and they require a lot of her time. I will be alone then and will have basically just you guys.
I hate this damn evil Monster Cancer and what it has done to my Sweetheart. -----------Ray

Dear GB Friends, and you are my friends since my hunting partner of 55 years passed away. My son made it in from Cornelius, NC at 5pm and my Sweetheart passed away at 11:15 pm.
Diane's ashes will be buried with mine and reside under Old Glory for a military funeral in Louisa County, Va. when the time comes.
I am over come with grief. If you would please pray for my Diane and our family. --------Ray

Just know our prayers are still going out for your family .

That's rough Ray. Draw comfort that you are there with her, holding her hand, talking to her. You have to know she is taking great comfort in that aspect of what is going on around her.
My thoughts and Prayers go out to you both.
God Bless you both.
