A hypothetical
Let's say you had to choose between a M1911 Colt and a Smith & Wesson revolver of the same period (say a Model 1905). If value of the gun is not a consideration, which one do you want to carry for self defense?

If it was my Smith model 19, I would pick that over an older 1911. For that matter I would pick it over any 1911 if it was my butt on the line!!
My 19 is very special. Before I got it, it had won 2 Ohio State Trooper Championships. I personally put over 50,000 rounds through it. Between what I put through my 19 and the Trooper put through it, it had loosened up a little. I sent it to Nelson Ford for him to tighten it up. Nelson is/was a certified S+W gunsmith. Nelson is good, my 19 came back like a new Model 19.
If I want to embarrass my son or son-in-law in a shooting session that is the weapon of choice. There is something to "muscle memory!!"
I wont even mention that a revolver can't jam. I have shot thousands of rounds through various high end semi's in 45 and 9. The saying about it is not if your semi will jam, it is when, is true. I will concede that with a quality piece, jams are rare.

Why is this even a question?
John Browning designed the perfect pistol with the 1911..........and..............the Hi-Power
