Remington 1911 R 1
Anyone comment on the reliability of the Remington 1911 R 1. Looking for a U.S made 1911 in a basic configuration.

I have only heard good things about the Remington. That being said, if I was to buy another 1911 and didn't want to pay Colt prices, I'd buy a Ruger. IMHO they have about the best warranty service of any of the manufacturers. Bob

Welcome @Shooter7311 I guess it is a good idea you also asked your question here in the General Discussion forum in addition to your first few attempts in the Ask the experts forum which only allows 10 responses and you seem to be having difficulties posting... you will hopefully get the hang of it and stick around.

IMHO, If I was going to buy a 1911, and didn't want to spend the $$ for a colt, Ruger would get the nod. Their CS is probably the best in the business.

Another vote for Ruger SR1911. I have a Gold Cup National Match and can't tell any appreciable difference in performance.

My .02 cents worth is actually quite self serving. My daughter-in-law works for Colt Firearms in the marketing department. I strongly urge you to buy a Colt 1911. My grandchildren need to eat and it is the original 1911 from over a century ago.

I’ve had several different ones.. Kimber, Ruger, and I found an older colt that just looks rough but shoots great. You need to really try some different ones , find a gun shop with a Range and rent one. The single action trigger is accurate for targets, but after carrying one it’s reallllllllllly heavy.. And that safety does seem to get clicked off on occasion… no real big deal because there is a grip safety, but it makes you pucker a bit. and I’m a fan of Colt It’s not a 1911 unless it’s a Colt

The real thing is do you want a full size or a commander?. 8 or 7 rounds. And a regular slide or short. Thing is you can configure the 1911 many ways. The grips can be fat or skinny and the main thing is… will it function with hollow points? Many a jam for me with the 1911, ramp polishing , spring upgrades , so many hangouts for me that I wouldn’t count my life against more than one assailant…. And I find wonder nines hold more, function, and are much lighter.
But an old iron frame 45 is the perfect gun for when you make t to the enemy trench and you gotta clear it, hardball is the way to go in 1911, there’s enough mass to make lots of hole with out need to use hollow points.
