Oh my Lord talk about total disgusting filth, this was over the top
I am talking about my AR-9 (9MM of course) it is my go to trainer for centerfire rifles in the hands of newbie shooters. It is a lot less blasty than the 223/5.56 is so folks are not intimidated by it. Recoil is nil, noise is easy to handle and it is amazingly accurate out to the 200 yard plates.
I have had many timid first time shooters start with that rifle after learning safety and handling the .22 rifle.
It was built many years ago when they were dirt cheap, simple recoil operated, looks like an AR-15 with a smaller mag well. It takes all Glock mags, I have about 15 of the 32 round mags loaded ready to go.
Today was the first time it has ever been cleaned. If I had to hazard a guess I estimate it has ate about 5,000 rounds of 9MM cast bullet loads, maybe more since I built it.
In my 55 years of shooting I have NEVER seen a gun so dirty with powder gas junk, grime and carbon everywhere, even on the scope base. The flash hider looked like the inside of a coal mine. The dang thing never jammed, never stopped shooting and was still going strong. The outside of the receiver near the ejection port was dark grey from all the burned powder gasses, the bore had no lead but it was a burned powder fouled mess.
How that poor thing kept shooting accurately and never missing a beat is beyond my understanding. I might have to clean it again some day....

Blow back so it's going to get dirty. I have a Colt AR15 in 9mm and used to keep one as a rental gun at the range.

They do get dirty. I disassembled mine and ran it thru the dishwasher. Oil it up and ready to go.

@grdad45 Just don't leave it in the dishwasher over night. A lazy defective did that & then blamed Walther when the department's stainless PPK/S turned orange by morning. Here's a tube of Flitz and your sign.

I watched my Dad wash firearm parts in the sink with soap and water... he explained they cleaned the ships guns with soap and water and oiled them up.
