I had a S&W M&P .40 cal. , was too glock like. One of the things, being too narrow. Like holding on to a 1x4 in your hand.
Traded it in against my S&W 629 classic .44 mag

It's not, unless the 1911 is double stack like most Glocks. I am not going to open the safe to measure them, but I am sure any of the single stack 1911's in there are not as wide as the two .45 Glocks in there.

Out of curiosity......why do folks think they need to choose? Do you only have one pocket knife? One screw-driver? One pair of shoes?

I enjoy my 1911's and don't consider them obsolete. But the Glock is a better carry pistol in my opinion.

For me, the grip of a glock is horrible. Rather it be the width, thickness, grip angle, grip panels, I don't know. But any glock I've held, trying to maybe like one, I could not.
Maybe another few generations from now, I'll try one and see.

The only time I fired a M1911A1 on active duty was familiarization fire in recruit training. Each recruit was issued 3 magazines and 15 rounds.
A range coach stood between two recruits, one arm on the shoulder of each shooter. We didn’t get individual targets, they were just there to aim at. Fire 5 rounds, change mags, fire 5 rounds, change mags. As I loaded the last magazine the coach said, “Shoot this last mag as fast as you can.”
I took him at his word and emptied it in about four seconds. He seemed surprised and said, “Maybe not that fast, private.”
I was a dyed-in-the-wool revolver man, due in no small part to a Hi Standard Duramatic aka jamomatic that was the first auto I ever shot, but I knew I’d have to have a 1911 of my own some day.
I never thought I would ever buy a Glock but my wife said she wanted one so I got her a 6 shot model 43.

Colt model 1911 in 45 ACP is a proven winner, and it’s hard to argue with success. It’s the greatest handgun ever made. If it takes you 15 rounds to hit someone your not doing your part.

My Glock 22, (.40cal.) Goes bang everytime I pull the trigger. My 1911's would not fire more than 3 rounds without a FTL, (Stovepipe.) with 230 ball ammo, in multiple mags. (Wilson Combat, etc.) The only new Firearm I have ever owned that refused to function. Not gonna spend $$ to run 300-500 rounds of ammo to "Break it in," (or) pay to have it made reliable. (You know, the way it should have left the Factory.) Bye Felicia.
Guess which one I still own. 🤔
*Heck, even my Kahr .45 goes bang, everytime I pull the trigger. 😉

FWIW, I do own a couple of Glocks, and a few 1911's....

Many many years ago at a long forgotten gun show when they were it .no internet and gun shops were miles away
Any way 1st glock I seen a dealer had a table full of them of course most evey one was omg its plastic your kidding and that was the nice comments
As I was standing close by the dealer challenged a fellow with a colt 1911 on his side
The salesman took the slide and top half off the Glock .then proceeded to hammer it into the table with a lot of force
Held up the frame put the top half back on and worked the slide no worse for ware
He then said ok that's what this plastic gun can do give me your colt I do the same see how that metal frame holds out
Of course the fellow holding the cold just faded into the background lol
