Looks like part of the action of a Marlin 60.

It is definitely the sideplate assembly from a Marlin 60 or 99, or one of a number of nearly identical models. It fits onto the receiver after the breech bolt and recoil spring are installed. It is held in place on both ends by screws or in later examples, plastic pegs.
DO NOT try to take this assembly apart.
