Winchester model 12 forearm
I have a 1956 model that measures 8" overall. Will one that measures 7" in length also fit as I seem to be having trouble locating an 8". Is it just the bottom "tail" that is longer or the actual inside for it not to fit? Thanks in advance.

most m-12 forends will interchange (same gauge), some of the later ones 'telescoped' over the lower part of the action bar assy.
