The Slickest Lever Gun
This little Savage 99 Carbine came in today and she is just plain pretty. The action on this rifle is the smoothest I have ever run on a lever gun. It is chambered for .250/3000 or .250 Savage with a 20" barrel. That Weaver 1.5x4 is a perfect scope in my opinion for deer hunting. On 1.5X you can see about 6" of the barrel so the field of view is huge.

That is nice wood. I have a 99 (1953) in 308, they are really nice rifles.

My first deer rifle was/ is a 99e in 308. Paid $85 for it in1980 . It will always have a home .

I have a '53 EG in 250-3000. Nice guns for sure

Sweet! A friend blew up one like it last year using the wrong powder in his reloads. It broke his heart as he had killed many deer over the years with it.

Would have to be damn smooth to beat the ones made in America or not made at al! I sold all my 99s, but they were good. I think the guys in Rice Lake have got it together.

That is REALLY Nice. I've been wanting to add a 99 to my collection, (and that one has gorgeous wood, which I am a sucker for,) but I have bought 3 firearms in about 6 mo. (Roughly $3k) Just cant do it right now. (Like I "Need" it anyway.) 🤔😉😂🤣
Really need to put a new roof on my place, and replace the wrap around deck. (Focus Ken. Focus.)

A beautiful rifle, but the tang safety gives it away as a newer production rifle. Also the rear sight is questionable. Nicely figured wood, is it original?

I have no idea of the history, but the wood looks factory to me. I have no experience with center fire henry rifles so I cannot say. The rim fire guns are smooth, but we are talking apples and oranges. This rifle was made in 1975 and is as well made as any of the older 99's I have seen, and I have seen a few. Certainly not an expert, but I bought five old 99's from a shop in Mass. back around 2003 and have sold others over the years, and this gun is as good as any of those. The rear sight is factory. Now to find her a good home.

I am more of an 1895 fan, particularly the pre 1920 models.
The 30-06 puts a hurt to the shoulder, but the 30-40 is a comfortable round both in the full length and the take down models.

Take the butt plate off and see if it is stamped Boyd's, or another aftermarket maker.

I have a 99 made in 1921, takedown 30-30 that has almost as nice wood. Now if only I'd have bought the 358!

Got two 99s, a 30-30 ca.1902 and a 25-35, ca.1910 and yes, they are smooth.

Nice one Sir! I have always been partial to the 99's. Way more advanced than the other lever guns IMHO. Got a couple of them in the safe, Dads 250 and a 300 I bought probably 40 years ago. We put a scope on Dad's when he started hunting in Montana/Wyoming in the late 70's and I put a receiver sight on mine for Michigan deer. Now 40+ years later if I was going to grab one it would be the scoped 250. Scopes are a lot more friendly to my eyes now. Bob
