What is this? Colt AR upper...16 inch

    This has me stumped.....its like an SP1 with a short barrel. I don't know what this upper is from? It doesn't have the shell deflector....Colt markings in the handguard....but the barrel is only 16 inches long with that prong like muzzle break.


    What is this?


    The lower is just a standard Sabre lower

    I would take off hand guards and see if colt markings on barrel?

    I got it wrong.....OMG at the crazy emails. Some nut sent a message Christmas day telling me how he was going to find the buyer and tell him I scammed him and he was contacting GB about me being a fraud. I had a couple nice messages saying I was mistaken and pointing out the differences....which is how people SHOULD handle things. Things ending Christmas day are typically not an issue. Everyone is still online and the buyers are there for items....but I am NOT looking at my emails during this time. So, I missed the "heads up" until it was too late.


    Anyway.....this has a forward assist and a bayonet lug, which the dissipator did not have. Also, I'm learning the Colt markings are not in the handle until later. This is early, but I don't know exactly what model this upper is??


    Going back up! Any of you have some input I need to add or think I have something wrong here?

    I suspect it is a Brownells brn 605 reproduction. I'd post a pic but the only one I could find quickly is on a competitive site. Bob

    Would the Brownells have the Colt stampings in the carry handle?

    Missed that, but no I don't think so. The upper looks like the Colt xm16e1 and I knew Brownells makes a retro copy. Bob

    I didn't try to take it off....I'm sure its threaded, but its packed up to ship and I don't want to dig it back out. I looked at muzzle breaks for 40 minutes trying to sort out if the one on it is a "true" Colt duckbill and I am pretty certain it is.

    It is some put together what ever. I've assembled something like that back in the day. The barrel and upper receiver are probably genuine but the rest is not. I think Colt made a few of these but pretty much went with the xm177 like the special forces used in Vietnam. There were a few barrel makers that marketed these barrels as dissipator barrels. They weren't that hard to come by some 20-25 years ago.

    Well actually I did find another photo of one of mine. This one is from around 40 years ago. Well before flat top uppers, they used to cut off the carry handle and then attach a home made mount for the scope. Also this one had the Colt Commando flash hider on it at the time. It also had the the other prong flash hider on it as well.

    I/we have one of those except on ours, the carry handle was milled off and the milled base D&T for Weaver bases. It's a very accurate AR.

    So, would it be easier to separate and sell as parts?
