Making some tonight myself without the black beans, I prefer pintos refried and La Victoria medium salsa and no guacamole for me, although the wife made her some... each to their own.

Man those were good! (Bloated.) [In a good way.] 😁

No refried beans here either. (Had plenty to eat.) Lot's of meat. I usually use refried beans when the meat is on the low side, as an extender. Not necessary this time.

Not a gourmet as my spice rack only contains a few basics like sage and oregano along with a few others, so I always grab a taco seasoning packet at the grocery store when I put tacos on the menu.

Tried several of those packets out over the years and have found Old El Paso to be my favorite. I make the batch mild for family tastes but have several hot sauces and jalapenos handy for doctoring at the table. I also like the soft flour tortillas better than the corn ones for ease in chewing. Only a couple of good molars left to work with.

Your tacos sound good @KenK/84Bravo and have enticed me into making some tonight for supper!!πŸ˜›

While I enjoy reading that I have enticed you to make Tacos as well @Brookwood, using flour tortillas make em' Burritos. πŸ€”πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚

I also used to use the spice kits for the meat, but after eating at my Mom's house a few times, I've discovered I prefer the meat somewhat plain as I described above. Their are plenty of other flavors to keep things interesting.

I used a squirt of a new to me hot sauce on each Taco. "Tattoo" Avocado/Serrano Hot Sauce. (Since I could not locate my Avocados. (I KNOW I bought two the other day. ) Musta put them in a "Special" place. Still gave each Taco a dose of Tabasco for some heat.

Gonna have more today. Everything ready. Just gotta fry up some more Corn Tortillas.

@He Dog , "Grated Potato," yee gawds man, next you will be talking about making chili, Without beans. πŸ€”πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Well, I don't do Tex-Mex, and I go very light on the cumin or "chili powder" which is heavy on cumin. Mexican cooking varies widely in the US and in Mexico. In Sonora and by some in New Mexico and Arizona, grated potato is used. I like it. I like beans too.

Everybody can decide for themselves, I use both kinds of different sizes depending upon the mood I'm in, sometimes I use both! But here is one persons opinion, I don't necessarily agree with which filling goes with which type tortillas, but was interesting on some of the history aspects...

as long as you enjoy it makes no difference, but chili doesn't have beans! LOL!

Lived in El Paso for a time. (In another era.) Used to go to Juarez most weekends after Church to several restaurants we frequented. (Back when it was safe to do so.) Wouldn't go to Juarez on a bet, now-a-days.

I make an award winning mean Chili. (With beans.) One of my favorite things to make/consume.

*That topic is toxic, akin to the .9mm vs. .45 vs .40 debate. I threw it out there, knowing it was smacking the Hornets nest. Too predictable. πŸ€”πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

About a 1 1/2 lb of good Hamburger, browned/drained. (With a large onion, diced, in with the meat.) Some Cumin, salt/pepper, Badia Sazone Tropical spice. Soft corn tortillas individually fried in Olive oil in a small cast iron pan. A couple fresh Avocados mashed up, (with the above spice mix.) With a small fine diced tomato, same fine diced onion, (so Guacamole.) A pkg of Black bean re-fried beans, fine diced lettuce, shredded Sharp Cheddar cheese, Sour cream, Tabasco hot sauce on each individual Taco, (cause' that's how I roll.) 😁 pickled Jalapenos on each as well. Got several large jars on hand. Love em'.

Today's eats. One of my all time favorites. πŸ‘

If that's how you roll, then wouldn't that make you more of a burrito type guy?

How about some very thick chili served in a flour tortilla! With beans of coarse! Just for the extra GAS you will need to get through a busy day!

All those names given to those south of the border type dishes, I'd call my chili tortilla a "Chili Tortilla" 😁

flour tortillas are a sin against Latino food. Corn is the only way to go. They can be softened with steam or a quick fry in oil.

That's Exactly what I keep telling my Mom @mohawk600. Flour tortillas (unless it is a Burrito) is an abomination and "sin against Latino food." Gaaack.......................

She invites me over on occasion, enticing me with Taco's, as she knows I love them. I always stress, "Please, use Corn Tortillas." Soft individually fried in oil are my favorites, next up would be the hard shell Corn Tortillas you bake in the oven for a few minutes.

    Flour Tortillas? Gaack.............................................

Chili Without Beans? Suitable for Hotdogs, not normal consumption. πŸ‘πŸ˜πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‚πŸ€£

Depends upon what kind of Chili you're talking about... from the International Chili Society Rules...

    "Traditional Red

Traditional Red Chili is any kind of meat, or combination of meats, cooked with red chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients. Beans and non-vegetable fillers such as rice and pasta are not allowed. Preference is not given to either cut meat, ground meat, shredded meat or cubed meat.

    Homestyle Chili

Homestyle Chili is any kind of meat, or combination of meats, and/or vegetables cooked with beans, chili peppers, various spices and other ingredients. Homestyle chili may be any color. Beans are required. Preference is not given to either cut meat, ground meat, shredded meat or cubed meat. Seafood is allowed."

Oh and @mohawk600 the flour tortilla originated in Spain, corn in the America's, Funny that you mention it is a sin, since it was the Catholic priests that went to Mexico that preferred the wheat based flour due to the association with "the body of Christ."

but as I said previously, Each to their own.😁

@Brookwood, I hope you've not steered me wrong. I found a pack of Old El Paso Meat spice mix. Added it to the apprx 1 lb left over browned hamburger. Added another fine diced sweet onion, cause you cant have too much onion in Tex-Mex cooking, and about 1/3rd cup water per directions. Simmering away.

More Taco's on the menu for this evening. I could eat them 2-3 days a week, easy.

Ken, I've tried them all and Old El Paso is my favorite. My earlier plans for having tacos got overridden by my Mrs. who made a tuna casserole while I was out doing some chores this morning. πŸ˜“

I may see if my two fantail goldfish like tuna casserole tacos! I know both my dogs will just about eat anything and the sooner that dish is empty!! The sooner I get my real tacos!

  • KenK/84Bravo

Sorry Brother, I love Tuna casserole as well. I'd be good with that. πŸ‘

*Tuna Helper Rocks. Just gotta add, fresh cut/diced mushrooms, sour cream, diced celery, 2X the Tuna etc. Gotta boost it up.

It will be Taco's this evening though. Mmnnnn........................Mmmnnn.....................................
