Pet health insurance
I got my dog health insurance. It’s about $20 a month and would really take the sting out of some unexpected issues he may have.
My wife looked at me like Im some kind of idiot, but I figure for 20 bucks a month this is probably one of the few policies that will almost certainly come in handy at some point.
Am I the only sucker around here or anyone else have pet health insurance?

Kind of. We did this prepay deal at our local PetSmart that saved us around 700 dollars a few years ago. Both dogs we owned back then are now passed away and we moved to another smaller town. No PetSmart near here.

After doing all we could to save some of our dogs with serious issues really we just prolonged the inevitable a short time
Looking back insurance would have been a great deal of help with all the bills I never added it all up but know it was a nice chunk of change
but they were part of the family .And even if it hurt our pockets I can sleep knowing we did all we could to save them
So I see getting insurance has to be a good call hind sight is always best

Your money, your choice. I have never had pet insurance but it could of saved me some money on a few of the critters we've had, A free cat cost me around 1200 in vet bills when it got kicked in the head by a horse and one of our dogs had surgery twice over 10 plus years to clear blockages from crap she ate to the tune of over 6,000 dollars....

I think it is a good idea after 10 years of age. My little guy developed a heart condition - $525 for a heart scan of some sort. It got real expensive the last year of his life.

Never saw any at $20 a month. We can afford the bills, so figure paying an insurance company is throwing away money.

Financially it seems like a poor investment. I had no interest in throwing the money away, but the wife knew I'd balk at spending big dollars to fix a pup so we got a policy (premiums were about $3.5k over that dog's life). We used it once for a knee (basically what on humans is ACL surgery) which saved us about $3k. Would I have "invested" the full $4.5K in that dog (he was 11 at the time) if we had no insurance? I've seen plenty of happy three-legged dogs, so probably not. Guess my wife is pretty smart.

Over the years I have been very lucky when it comes to veterinarian dog care. We had a litter of Collie pups born and one of the pups had a heart condition. If untreated the dog would have maybe lasted a year tops. Our choices were to do nothing and let it live out that year, put her down, or spend a few thousands of dollars for heart surgery.
Our vet just happened to also teach at a nearby college. He came to us asking if he could take our pup and use her for a teaching\learning tool showing his students the operating heart procedures and video taping everything done for his future classes. All the costs were forgiven for doing so!
I had another vet that actually made house calls and saved us all the office fees for routine shots and checkups.

Nope, not a chance. It is going to cost over $350 for the fix I will take the pet home and let it pass naturally unless suffering, then I will have it put down. I may love them but pets UNFORTUNATELY come and go during our human existence. All of my pets have firmly rooted fond memories in my mind. I miss them, I loved being with them. In four months I will go get a rescue dog to share my retirement with. I hope we have a blast together.

My grand kids have a dog like yours.She does not know she is a dog,she thinks and acts like the grand kids.
