Would like some Info on the M1 Garand rifle from you guys!

On the M1 Garand there are two holes, one in front of the trigger guard and some time

one on the back of the trigger guard. I believe the front hole is for the safety.

Can anyone tell me what the holes in the back of the trigger guard is for?

One in front is for a lock to prevent use by bad guys.
