Speaking of Starlink?
Does anyone here use Starlink for their internet service? A Hughesnet customer that has no other options wants to know. 🙄

I dont think starlink was ever finished. I think its partially functional, but not sure if there are plans to finish it either. Kinda dropped out of the news.
I used verizon "hotspot" for years with no issues, IF you have verizon coverage. I now have local fiber optic internet, which cost WAY more BUT I need it for work. Verizon only let me down a few times over the years.

It’s available in some areas and will become available in more areas as more satellites are launched.

Starlink now has over one million active customers. The only areas where new customers have a hard time getting it is where it is "oversubscribed." Meaning in more populated areas (where other kinds of service are likely available anyway.)

my wife checked ito it maybe a year ago
It had a sigh up fee 500.00 or 1000.00 or something like that and 100.00 a month
My numbers may be off so don't use them as correct but at the time we could not get it any way so just put in on the back burner mY have to look again soon

Some people I know about 50 miles north of me are using it and they claim it to be the best thing since sliced bread.

My co-worker just got hers up and running and she lives out in rural Idaho where there really aren't other good options. I think she had Hughesnet prior and it was just slow and had long latency times to boot. In contrast Starlink appears to be an incredibly good service: fast speeds, low latency, and reliable. It is pretty expensive though. But there are no Teams video conferencing issues for her any more.

My Hughesnet monthly bill is 115 bucks a month. I do have their landline satellite hook up for my phone service included but every time it densely clouds up or snow get on the dish I lose both internet and phone service.
Also my plan is limited to the amount of internet usage and I cannot even think about streaming movies and such. Just surfing the web and that's it.

You can't go wrong. The startup costs are a onetime thing. Just received mine will be hooking up in the next couple months.

The map shows about 1000 of them. It seems like space pollution. What happens if they quit working? Will they be brought back to crash? Holy Moley.

As of November there were 3,271 of them and 3236 of them are operational.

When they go obsolete or are otherwise at the end of their useful life, they are brought down - and completely burn up. That's the final advantage of them being in low orbit; they have to be slowed down only a few feet per second to begin reentry. Over a hundred already have. As far as is known, no parts have hit the ground.

I would like/appreciate another viable solution for Internet Service. My current "Service," is abysmal due to "Terrain Issues." I have a Verizon dedicated 4G Samsung Galaxy Tab E. (My solution to getting internet.)
I get screwed bad enough by DISH for TV, I decided that I am not going to give them one more dime for Internet. Not happening. The other couple options locally, have very negative feedback by Customers.
When it becomes affordable, I would be interested.
