One Pound Of Morgans

A couple of months ago someone posted about the late night commercials concerning selling a pound bag of Morgan silver dollars. I can't find the post so I started this one. I finally took the time to call that 800 number to ask the price. After patiently waiting for a guy to read his required script he said $979.00 per bag of 17 coins - but only if I hurry! That must be an expensive bag!

    Yeah but there might be a rare one in the bunch worth an amazing fortune! 😁 Fat chance of that happening.

    Since the melt value today would be about $283, I think their profit margin is just a bit high. Of course you have to pay tax on your purchase and probably shipping so you lose even more. Guess I'll pass and won't bother calling. Sounds like they are counting on the "sucker born every minute" principal. Good old P.T. sure was right and things haven't changed much since his time. Bob

    There's a commercial for collector grade silver coins in a one pound bag quantity. There is no web link or name in the ad, just a 800 number to call. With my hearing or lack of I can not understand anything they say on the phone. How much do they want for that one pound bag of coins? Thanks.

    I don't know the commercial in question but OP says 17 "Morgans" assuming the older Morgans which are certainly worth quite a bit more than melt value each. I usually dig through the "cull" bucket and pick out the nicest looking ones and at current silver prices I doubt you would be able to buy out of the Morgan dollar cull bucket for under $30 so 17x$30=$510. I don't know the quality of the Morgans they send so I can't really comment further without more info. I just wanted to point out if its actually old Morgan silver dollars they are worth way more than the melt value of the silver.

    EDIT- I had to go look up the commercial on Youtube, yes, it looks like Cull bucket Morgans. $989 is definetly too much. Should be able to get 30-35 of them at a coin store instead of 17.

    The actual silver weight of a Peace or Morgan Dollar is .77344 of an ounce.....

    If they were all CC mint mark in BU condition the price is about right. But chances are most are just culls.
