I agree that it's not wise to issue threats or ultimata. However, warning the owner in writing is always a wise thing to do...documentation is the best way to cover your butt.

On the other hand, I'm not opposed to shooting ANY animal that threatens me or mine. I like dogs but won't put up with having to be afraid on MY property.

And yes, it's the OWNER'S fault, not the dogs. The dog just pays the price, unfortunately.

I wish you the best, however it ends up.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could just shoot the irresponsible owner? It's unfortunate the dog has to pay for their actions.

If someone, by their negligence causes harm to me or my property, I don't see how it's excessive, really.

    Really?

Yes really. This isn't a knitting forum. If you're uncomfortable using a gun for self defense, maybe this forum isn't for you.

harm from negligence comes in many forms, not sure a violent reaction is always the proper response

Had the very same problem. Started using a pump air pistol. Just enough power to sting them. I hollered 1st then shot. Now IF they come by, which isn't too often, I only need to holler and they are gone😏

@asop, my pump Crossman is wildly innacurate. (Not sure where I'd hit them.) My Chinese Nitro Single pump will spit a .177 lead Pellet out @1200fps+, very accurately. (But) I don't want to cause them serious injury.

My Ultimex .177 single stroke pistol didn't even seem to phase them when they were hit a couple times. (400fps?) Lottsa Hair. (Why I bought it, for the dogs.)

Haven't checked in on this thread in a couple days. Figured I was getting beat up. Pleasantly surprised to see that the majority seem to understand where I'm coming from.

Problem is, if my dog (Buddy) is on his front Trolley line, I am usually inside. If the dogs come around, they will be fighting before I know what is going on. We have been lucky that Buddy and I have been on the back deck when we have encountered them. They come right up to the deck rails, growling, hair raised etc. The fight would be on if Buddy could get to them.

I texted her specifically so there would be a record that I have discussed this with her 5-6 times, indicated that it was a repeated problem and laid out what would happen if my dog was attacked on my Property.

My final text to the Lady? "This is the LAST time I want to see your dogs on my Property."

*What REALLY tweaked me this time, was that it was not that her dogs had gotten out, without her knowledge. She was walking them off leash on our road and letting them run way on to people's Property. She was present and aware of what was going on. She didn't seem to care, or understand that this was a problem. (After my having warned her several times previously.) Seriously ticked me off. I had had enough, and let her know in No Uncertain terms.

I live out in the Country. I moved to where I am, on purpose. I do not cause anyone any problems, EVER. I expect the same Courtesy. (Especially after I have discussed a problem with you, several times.)

Show me a lack of Respect, repeatedly - We are going to have a Problem. This Out Of State transplant neighbor, is seeing that side of me now.

As I have said above - I have no problem being That Guy, when the situation warrants it.

I'd get more satisfaction, borrowing a paintball gun and absolutely ripping in to one.

    Not a bad idea. 🤔
