Met a ‘Devil Doc’ yesterday,,,,,,,
He was old and he was wrinkled but had the handshake of a younger man. And he walked proud with his head up and his shoulders squared.
Four tours in ‘Nam’ as a Navy Corpsman. Returned home and went to Med School and became a doctor.
Was proud to shake his hand.

My doctor was a medic in the army.. they paid for his training..

Nephew is a CSM at Bragg. His duties were when he was with 5th SF Group, Jumpmaster, Combat Medic and others I can't mention. Trained at many Hospitals in USA. Not a doctor but he could work on me any time. ----------------------------Ray

Our family doctor for many years was an old Marine veteran. Did 2 tours in Nam and became a doctor using the GI Bill.
Became a very close friend and hunting\fishing\camping\card playing\dinner party pardner. When he retired some 20 years ago, I never found another doc that even came close to filling his shoes medically even!
The first time I met him and made an office call for a very bad throat infection (tonsilitis) he quickly diagnosed the problem and had me back up and running quickly. He noticed the wrist watch I was wearing and asked me if it was an actual Swiss Army watch. I told him yes it was but also said that it would be very embarrassing for me to tell him just how I had acquired it. He then really started to press me for those details. Came clean with the truth, it took a gazzillion coupons from packs of Marlboro ciggs!! 😐️
Dr. Larry just beamed with a smile. He then whispered he had the Marlboro canoe!

As a SeaBee electrician stationed at the Navy Hospital in Danang in 1966, I saw some of the most brave and talented men I ever met. Those guys saved probably thousands of lives out in the jungles and at the hospitals! They are what "first responder" really means! Not sure how many paid the price while attempting to care for a wounded soldier. BTW--they were all named "Doc"!

Have a former Ranger friend/buddy that got out and went to Medical School. Went back in as a PJ.
God Bless those thst put themselves in Harms Way, to Rescue others.
