Seems like the serial number you listed comes up to be a model 10, 38 special.

Got to be an oldie for sure. Picture?

    Might be a K frame model 17 Masterpiece, early production, pre-war ?

3 screw or 4? I can't make it out for sure. 4 screw is first model, 3 screws is 2nd model, I think but I am positive.

Jump over to the auction side and look for model 17 in revolvers.

Looks like 1947, model numbers never came out until 1957. Here is a good article on the K22.

An Official Journal Of The NRA | A Look Back At The Smith & Wesson K-22
Born at the beginning of the Great Depression, this iconic revolver remains a masterpiece to this day.

Yours appears to be a "LERK", or a Large Ejection Rod Knob. They were not real common, and some people go crazy for them. What a wonderful piece of history to own, nice find.

Do you think the gun was made in 47 or 57 ?

According to the SCoSW #4, serial numbers for 1947 were K615-K18731, while 1957 is K288989-K317822. If it was 1957, then there should be a model number stamped in the crane, where yours only has a manufacturing batch number to keep it together with the rest of the parts. 1947 looks like the year it was made, not 57.

This thread will get shutdown at 10 replies. Start a new thread with part 2, or something so we can follow it if it gets closed.

Wow, if you didn't know exactly what you were getting you got very lucky. Right now that would go for around $800 to $900, maybe a thousand$ to the right buyer. Nice score!
