Shed hunting
Took a walk yesterday to see if I could find any sheds. No luck. I did take a few pics while I was out and about. One of my little wet weather streams combined with recent winds were the bane of one of my oaks.
The little stream makes for an awesome moss display. When we have a lot of rain in a short amount of time the stream becomes a roaring creak. I have three or four of these streams flowing through the farm.

I need a shed too. An 8’ X 12’ shed would be perfect. If you find one, let me know.

we have one of the dumbest laws here in West Virginia, it is legal to pick up roadkill, but illegal to shed hunt!! never understood that one

Is it illegal all year round of just winter and early spring?

Look for places where the deer jump over ditches and obstacles. Sometimes the sheds will pop off there.
I have a tool shed, and yes I thought he was hunting out of a shed.

Get on your tractor and drive around a bit, you find sheds! Don

They haven't dropped here yet. At least I have seen a couple small bucks in the last few days and they still had them.
I have never heard of a state where it is illegal to gather up antlers. If they want to get that picky, they can be responsible for the damage deer cause. Starting with car damage; here in Iowa it would be in the millions of dollars. Last year was the first year I haven't hit a deer since 1992.

Found many were a field (corn, wheat . .) meet up with the surrounding timber.

Yep. I walked the stream, fence rows, pond banks and the edges of the fields. Haven't checked the game camera to see if they are still antlers.
With the cold weather, ice and snow we have had I was on the prowl for last year's sheds. It's easier to spot them with all the trees and brush being barren at the moment.

Another trick is to string wires 16" or so off the ground & then throw corn under them. Antlers get knocked off when a buck goes for a treat. Or so I've heard.

Sorry Susie, I have two "Sheds." One is 30'×40' metal, the other is 10'x20' wood. They are both in the same place, last I looked. 😁
I do not have to hunt for them. (Yet.) Maybe when I'm Older? 🤔

You spill your drink any of those times? Almost got a cow elk once, that would spilled it all.

wolfpak messaged me and said he thought the state repealed the shed law few years ago, so I may be a few years behind the times and wrong about the shed law.....

I start shed hunting at the end of February. I just started noticing that a few of the bucks here lost their antlers. Last year, they hung onto them for a lot longer time. I had one buck with his antlers till almost the end of March last year. Definitely look over fallen trees, creek crossing areas and fences. Like someone else said, when they jump over things, the antlers tend to fall off.
