and gas is under $3 a gallon, $2.89 down 25-30 cents from yesterday, think it has anything to do with the state of the union address tonight???????
heres a weird update the two stations at the corner by my house are $2.89, all over the rest of town$3.29, 40 cent difference?? something is wrong somewhere, prices are still the same today

Closest stations between $2.99 and 3.19 here today in Rhome Texas, filled up at Kroger a few days back using fuel points for 2.79.9 had to drive 18 miles to get there so shot about a gallon and a half to get there, but needed groceries anyway...

Ours is well over 4 bucks, and diesel is over 5 on the Washington coast.

Nope, gas is traded as a commodity, so it's pricing has more to do with how traders read the news or devine chicken entrails then anything political. The Gov collects taxes, doesn't control prices.

The govt absolutely controls gas/fuel prices. No, they dont have a switch to change the prices on individual gas stations. BUT their crazy policies do DIRECTLY cause fuel prices to increase!

Paid $2.34 per gallon today. Had a dollar off per gallon with fuel points at Kroger.

I ask an acquaintance of mine, who is in the gas business, why some of his stations have their price lower than some of his other stations right here in the same city. He told me his store managers have the flexibility to lower their gas prices (within set guidelines) to help stimulate sales in their particular location

Prices are higher on the "Rich" side of town around here. Been that way for as long as I can remember, and they seem to get plenty of business.

I agree with @mike55 those taxes are not the only thing they control, government policies influence supply/demand which is a big factor in gas & oil commodities... stick to critters @He Dog you're much better at that...imho.
But in fact it is the commodity traders that do the buying so a foggy day can cause a price increase. A bad yearly weather forecast causes the price of pork bellies to rise and so it is with oil. There is little rationality to the stock or commodities markets. I made my retirement betting against the market. And thanks for the compliment amigo, though I am probably not.

I remember as a young man laughing at one of my buddies joking that the day would come when we would pull up to the pump and say "Gimee a hundred dollars worth of regular." In January I bought $101 worth using kroger fuel points!

Our Kroger tops out at 35 gallons per visit, my old 95 f250 has the largest tanks at 2 each 18 gallons or so I've got close to a hundred bucks a few times but usually around 80 dollars using points, I think once I didn't get to top off the second tank before I hit the limit...

In Europe they pay as much for a liter as we pay for a gallon.

Two convenience stores nearest me. Both ExxonMobil. One was $3.29, the other $3.09. WTH?
