Quebec's Groundhog Day celebration was unexpectedly cut short when an official approached the podium and announced Fred la Marmotte's death.Does that mean that winter is here to stay if the groundhog dies before doing its prediction?

I wish winter was over after 2 major earthquakes, the river going to 22 feet a couple of times (flood stage) the old horse going down in the mud (500.00 vet bill) and as I'm typing it's pouring rain 🌧️.
