Losing Fiends & Relatives
Haven't been here for awhile but had some extra free time and thought I'd pop in. For the first time in 9 years since I retired I have absolutely nothing to do with my time. The high school that I was coaching and under new sports management decided they didn't want me any more as a coach. Never even bothered to contact me when the change took place. I decided to not bowl this year in my Tuesday night bowling league. So from spending 6 days a week in a bowling alley I was down to to zero. My daughter bought a house in the suburbs so I didn't have to pick up the grandkids any more.
So one day while sitting at home I decided to go through my contact list on my cell phone. I new I had some of the kids numbers that I had coached so I figure since I'm not coaching I didn't need them.
So after going down the list I deleted 15 phone numbers but what I didn't realize was that of those 15 numbers 9 of the numbers belonged to people that were dead. 2 sisters in law both younger than me. 4 work buddies all retired 3 younger than me and 2 that were just buddies 1 the same age as me and one older. Man it just sucks getting old, Saturday is the funeral for another guy I worked with who's number I didn't have again younger than me.

Had a real good friend I worked with close to 30 years, he retired few years before me, one of the biggest things I was looking foward to in retirement was spending time running around with him, he was one of those types who knew how to do about anything, and had the tools/equipment to do just about anything. Sadly he passed unexpected in his sleep right before I retired.

Glad u back and I know what you mean. There are many things to do if you have a mind to. Golf some more, and of course yard projects 😳

I know/knew so many people over the years, some I'll never forget and some whose names I can't remember but you can count the number of friends in my life on one hand, all are gone now, save one, my family, except for my son and wife are all gone now as well.
My two closest friends Bob and Scott, both pilots, one was a Captain for US Air and one worked for the FAA were both younger than me, both retired before me and most regrettably, both died before me. I, like you find myself with all these plans and no one to do them with.
Another thing that we never took into account was the fact that physically, we couldn't do most of those things anyway at our age.

Glad to see you back. I knew you stopped coaching about a year ago, But what about giving private lessons to some of those kids????
I keep all of the phone numbers of friends and family, that have passed, just so I don't ever forget how important they were to me. Yes, getting old sucks, but you still got a lot of life left in you. Oakie

And yes getting older I know more dead people as in old friends and family than I do living . I just keep ther memories alive with me

One of the curses of being blessed with decent health and long life is that we end up being pallbearers for those that weren't.

I started losing friends when I was in my 30's, about the same time I discovered my classmates were grandparents. Still have no kids and the loses have not stopped. Sorry for all of our loses.

Sometimes life is good, then bad things happen. It is difficult when we lose good friends and and family. Draw from the good times with those that we have lost.

I just lost my father in December. I lost my brother ~12 years ago. I still have both their numbers in my phone. I can't bring myself to delete them. 🤧😇
